Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Clayman! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jay Bacon! The judges for this bout are George Francis, Daniel Franklin and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bacon fails in his attempt to clinch. Bacon tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Clayman paws at him with a jab and circles away. A head kick misses from Bacon. Bacon tries to clinch there but Clayman circles away.
Clayman keeps the fight on the outside. Jay Bacon seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Clayman pushes Bacon up against the ropes in a clinch. Bacon scores with a knee to the head.
Bacon throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Clayman blocks it with crossed arms. Clayman looking for a takedown. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bacon tries to land a knee to the head but Clayman blocks with his arms.
Clayman jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Bacon walks away with a smile on his face. Clayman gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Bacon darts in trying to clinch and Clayman counters with a takedown into side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Clayman wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Bacon, who protects the arm well. Clayman tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Clayman has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Clayman is looking to take a break and control but Bacon is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Bacon wants to get back to his feet but Clayman drags him back down. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Clayman wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Bacon, who protects the arm well. Clayman tries to score with some ground and pound. Bacon controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Clayman throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Bacon regains half guard, as Clayman was trying to land strikes. Clayman winds up and cracks Bacon with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Bacon really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Clayman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Clayman thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Bacon's head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Clayman passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Bacon! Clayman landing shots from mount. Clayman trying to control but he's not successful this time. Clayman jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Bacon manages to avoid the submission attempt. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Clayman working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Clayman cracks Bacon with an elbow. That is naaassty. Clayman has hold of Bacon's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Bacon seems comfortable defending it but Clayman has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Bacon is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Bacon is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Clayman couldn't care less - he's delighted!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:03 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Mike Clayman!
