The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rex Jr connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Bu Jeevy momentarily.
Rex Jr scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Bu Jeevy will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Bu Jeevy scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Bu Jeevy is looking to take a break and control but Rex Jr is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Rex Jr pushes Bu Jeevy away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Bu Jeevy gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Bu Jeevy tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Stevie Bu Jeevy dominated that round. That's time! Rex Jr's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Rex Jr dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Bu Jeevy closes the distance and clinches up with Rex Jr, looking for a takedown. Bu Jeevy pushes Rex Jr against the cage but Rex Jr circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Bu Jeevy takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Bu Jeevy is defended easily by Rex Jr. Nice jab there from Rex Jr. Bu Jeevy tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Rex Jr swivels and escapes. Bobbie Rex Jr has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Stevie Bu Jeevy. Bu Jeevy fails with a takedown attempt. Rex Jr lands a lovely overhand right. Bu Jeevy shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Bu Jeevy postures up in Rex Jr's guard and throws a big left but Rex Jr blocks it. Bu Jeevy wants to pass the guard but Rex Jr is keeping the position. Rex Jr keeping moving, preventing Bu Jeevy from controlling successfully. Rex Jr is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Bu Jeevy is controlling him.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Rex Jr throws a nice looking combination but Bu Jeevy bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Rex Jr fails to land with a series of punches.

That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Bu Jeevy shoots in for a takedown but Rex Jr shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Bu Jeevy ducks right into an uppercut from Rex Jr. Bobbie Rex Jr is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Rex Jr displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Bu Jeevy. Bu Jeevy shoots for a takedown but Rex Jr saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Bu Jeevy shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Rex Jr but Rex Jr pushes him off and we're back to square one. Rex Jr throws a nice looking combination but Bu Jeevy bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Rex Jr clobbers Bu Jeevy with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. Rex Jr connects with a looping right hand.

Rex Jr's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. Bu Jeevy misses with a head shot. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rex Jr throws a nice looking combination but Bu Jeevy bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Bu Jeevy shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Rex Jr as he avoids it easily. Rex Jr misses with a body shot.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Bu Jeevy is defended easily by Rex Jr. Bu Jeevy walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Rex Jr cracks a nice hook into Bu Jeevy's ribs. Rex Jr looks to land a combination but Bu Jeevy avoids it well. Rex Jr scores with a hook to the body. Bu Jeevy takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Bu Jeevy looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Bu Jeevy is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Rex Jr has managed to free his arm - good work. Bu Jeevy trying to pass the guard but Rex Jr defending well. Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Rex Jr knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Stevie Bu Jeevy has got the better of the ground game so far. Bu Jeevy seems to be working for a kimura but Rex Jr defends the submission attempt. Bu Jeevy uses his free foot to push down on Rex Jr's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Rex Jr. Bu Jeevy working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
