Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Shannon Devil (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rashad Evans (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rashad Evans!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Alan Glass and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Devil closes the distance and clinches.
Evans tries to score a body lock takedown but Devil shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Devil landing some nice looking knees to the body.
Evans tries to stall but Devil uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Evans tries for a takedown. No joy.

Devil using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Evans has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Evans tries to pull guard but Devil won't allow it.

Devil throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Evans blocks it with crossed arms.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Evans perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Evans working over Devil with some ground and pound. Devil looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Evans trying to advance position but Devil counters by regaining guard.
Evans trying to control but Devil is working from the bottom.
Evans with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Evans has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Evans accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Evans stands and throws Devil's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Evans is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Devil knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Devil is not content to let Evans control the position.
Devil defending against the ground and pound.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Devil is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Evans has just dragged him back down to the mat.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Shannon Devil will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Evans rushes Devil and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
The referee calls for Devil to work.
Evans tries for a takedown. No joy.
Devil throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Evans blocks it with crossed arms.
Evans tries to pull guard but Devil won't allow it.

Evans works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Evans pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Devil is keeping the position for now.
Evans trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Evans is looking to advance position but Devil has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Evans tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Devil blocks Evans's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Devil controlling the pace for now.
Evans flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Evans is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Evans is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Devil controlling the position easily from mount.
Devil's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Devil wants to control the pace but Evans is squirming around nicely.
Evans is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Evans is trying desperately to improve position.
Devil looking to control and managing it successfully.

Evans throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Evans wants to hold on but Devil pushes him away.

A close second round but Rashad Evans will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Evans takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Devil closes the distance looking to clinch

and Evans decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Devil's guard.
Evans lands a couple of decent looking shots.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Evans. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Evans tries to free his leg and advance position but Devil is retaining full guard.

Devil is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Evans controls from within his opponent's guard.
Evans throws a strike but Devil rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Evans has a closed guard, preventing Devil from standing up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Devil tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Evans counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Devil pushes Evans off and gets back to his feet.
Devil tries to clinch but Evans moves away
and Evans counters with a straight right hand.
Devil keeps the fight on the outside.
Devil clinches but Evans breaks the clinch

and Evans counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Devil avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Evans.
Devil wants to get back to his feet.
Devil blocking the ground and pound attempt from Evans.

Evans is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Evans stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Devil to get to his feet.
Devil darts in trying to clinch
and Evans counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Evans will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Nice takedown defense from Devil. No joy for Evans on that attempt.
Devil clinches but Evans breaks the clinch
and Evans counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Evans throws a right and a left that both miss.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Devil closes the distance but Evans moves to the side
and Evans connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Devil wants to clinch

and Evans counters with a shoot takedown. Devil fights it but they end up in guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Evans postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Devil is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Evans, into his guard.
Devil won't allow Evans to sweep him here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Devil gets to his feet - Evans follows without any prompting.
Devil clinches but Evans breaks the clinch

and Evans counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Evans.

And that's the end of the fight!
Rashad Evans comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Evans has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
