PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bill Goldberg (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Greg Owens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters really staring eachother down here, as Greg Owens enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Bill Goldberg!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Greg Owens!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, William Gold and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Owens scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Goldberg shoots for a takedown but Owens saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Owens scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Owens wants to slow Goldberg down by chopping away at his legs.
Owens darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

Goldberg feints and as Owens raises his hands in defense, Goldberg changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Owens pulls Goldberg in close to prevent any damage.
Goldberg sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Owens's guard.
Owens is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Owens is trying to stand.
Owens is controlling Goldberg's trapped leg to prevent Goldberg from advancing to side control.
Owens is trying to get back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Goldberg is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Owens wants to hold on but Goldberg pushes him away.
Owens working to try and regain half guard.

Goldberg looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Owens is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Goldberg is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Owens can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Owens really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Goldberg. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Owens tries to hold on but Goldberg postures up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Goldberg wants to finish this one by submission but Owens is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Goldberg.
Goldberg is breathing heavily.

Goldberg is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Owens to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Owens shrugs it off.
Owens holds on to Goldberg as tight as he can, avoiding damage.
Owens wants to hold on but Goldberg pushes him away.
Owens holds on to Goldberg around his waist, trying desperately to prevent any attacks.
Owens tries to lock up and control but Goldberg gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Goldberg moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Owens has worked his arm free - good work by Owens!
Owens tries to buck Goldberg off but Goldberg is having none of it.

Owens is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Owens is trying to control Goldberg's posture but Goldberg avoids it.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Owens lands a right hook to the body.
Owens scores with a shot to the body.
Owens scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Nice uppercut there from Owens.
Owens throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Greg Owens dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Owens dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Goldberg shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Owens sprawls well. Owens wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Goldberg gets slowly back to his feet.

Owens is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Goldberg shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Goldberg looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Owens, as that shot connected.
Some bone on bone action there as Goldberg checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Goldberg takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Goldberg is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Owens.
Greg Owens seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Goldberg shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Owens throws a leg kick but Goldberg sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Owens closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Goldberg takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

Goldberg shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Goldberg is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Owens defends it well.

Goldberg wants to work for an arm triangle but Owens is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Owens is controlling Goldberg's position as best he can from this difficult position.

Owens is looking for a sweep. Goldberg is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Owens gets full guard.

Goldberg drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Owens dives on top into guard.
Owens postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Goldberg wants to stand up but Owens is controlling him.

Owens stands and steps away. Goldberg gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Owens stuns Goldberg with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Goldberg gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Owens.
Owens rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Goldberg moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Bill Goldberg is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Owens with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Goldberg misses with a takedown attempt - Owens sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
A left and a right from Owens both land. Nice combination.

Goldberg feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Owens is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Goldberg stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Owens swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Greg Owens showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Owens lands a nice hook to Goldberg's body. Goldberg takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Owens scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Goldberg doesn't seem bothered though.

Goldberg takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bill Goldberg. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Owens shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

Goldberg takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Greg Owens seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Goldberg takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Owens stuns Goldberg with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Goldberg is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Goldberg defending well as Owens loads up on a big left hand.
Goldberg fails with a takedown attempt.
Goldberg takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Owens bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

Goldberg looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.

Owens scores with a one two! Goldberg had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Owens throws a series of punches but Goldberg moves out of range.
Owens takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Goldberg will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Owens lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Owens throws a shot from downtown. Goldberg moves away and avoids it.
Goldberg takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Owens wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Owens misses with a few strikes there.
Owens rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Goldberg moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Goldberg shoots in for a takedown but Owens shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Owens stuffs the takedown attempt from Goldberg. Goldberg gets slowly back to his feet.
Owens stalks Goldberg and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Goldberg's face. Goldberg staggers backwards, shaken.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Owens misses with a body shot.
Goldberg dives in and grabs Owens's left leg, looking for a takedown. Owens pushes down on Goldberg's head and hops out.
Owens lands with a hook. Goldberg tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Goldberg shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Owens throws a low kick, looking for Goldberg's leg but Goldberg calmly moves out of range.
Bill Goldberg has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Goldberg looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Owens!

Goldberg thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Greg Owens is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Goldberg misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

And that's the end of the fight!
Greg Owens comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Owens winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
