Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brent Celek! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ensene Quientes! The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Anthony Taglia and Joseph Jones.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Quientes throws a hook but Celek avoids it easily. Quientes waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Celek. Quientes throws a body punch but Celek moves out of range. The fighters circling - Quientes throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Celek cracks Quientes with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Quientes misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Celek.
Quientes swings for the body but Celek moves out of range.
Ensene Quientes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Quientes throws a sloppy head kick and Celek moves out of range easily. Quientes misses with a wild body shot. Quientes misses the jab. Celek darts in and out, connecting with a jab. Celek lands a jab to the head.
Quientes misses with a straight right. Celek works the jab nicely. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Quientes misses the shot to the body. Quientes pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Quientes fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Celek manages to avoid it. A big left from Quientes misses. Quientes misses the shot to the body. Quientes misses with a body shot.
Quientes takes a body punch but keeps moving.
That's one minute gone in the round. Quientes swings and misses with a shot to the body and Celek counters with a takedown into side control. Celek has control of an arm but Quientes manages to advance to Celek's back! Quientes doesn't have the hooks in and Celek manages to turn into his guard.
Quientes looking for a sweep. Not yet Quientes, not yet. Celek lands a couple of digs. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Quientes can do anything to dispel that myth. Celek is working Quientes over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Celek throwing strikes but missing. Celek is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Celek trying to control the position from guard on top but Quientes is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Celek chips away with some ground and pound. Celek throwing strikes but missing. Quientes is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Celek working some strikes from top position.
Quientes is rocked! Celek lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Quientes is still in real trouble! Can Celek finish him? Celek has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Celek makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Celek thows a big elbow that misses. Celek distracts Quientes with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Quientes throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Celek passes Quientes's left leg - he's now in half guard. Celek working the head and body with strikes. Celek working over Quientes with some ground and pound. Quientes looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Quientes is looking to control Celek's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Quientes avoid being mounted?
That's three minutes gone in the round. Celek is sitting in half guard. He's postured up and lands a nice elbow. Oh, Quientes is hurt! He's hurt bad - Celek fires away with more strikes and the referee jumps in to save Quientes from any more punishment! Congratulations to Celek! Great finish!
