Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, William Sims! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Brian Walsh! The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, John Mangel and Skip Squint.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice straight punches there by Walsh. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Walsh. Walsh throws a big shot that misses. Sims takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Sims looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Walsh avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Sims. Walsh is looking for a sweep. Sims is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Sims thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Walsh's head. Sims prevents Walsh from improving his position. Walsh really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sims. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Walsh is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Walsh blocking the ground and pound attempt from Sims. Walsh tries to get to full guard but Sims has control of the leg.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Walsh misses with a series of wild punches.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sims will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Walsh takes a swing at Sims's ribcage but misses. Sims on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. Walsh lands with a hook. Sims tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. A combination from Sims does no damage. Sims takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Sims is breathing heavily. Sims takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Walsh circles and sees the opportunity to plant his feet and throw a really nice straight left hand that drops Sims to the canvas! Sims doesn't know where he is but he's trying to survive - Walsh keeps piling on the pressure and forces the referee to step in! This one is aaaaaall over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:32 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Brian Walsh!
