PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mac Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bob Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bob Smith will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mac Jackson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bob Smith!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, John Roberts and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jackson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Smith somewhat.
Jackson doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Smith counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Jackson's guard now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith trying to control but Jackson is working from the bottom.
Smith is looking to work some ground and pound but Jackson has wrist control.
Smith in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Smith really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jackson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Smith tries to stand but Jackson is controlling from the bottom.
Jackson pulls Smith in close to prevent any damage.

Smith postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Jackson is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Smith, into his guard.
Smith is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jackson is stalling in the full guard.
Jackson stops Smith from standing up.
Jackson slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Jackson throwing strikes but missing.
Jackson sitting in guard here, content to control.
Jackson could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Jackson decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Smith doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Jackson counters with a takedown into side control.
Smith looks gassed!
Jackson slows the pace down.
Jackson has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Smith struggling a bit here.
Smith might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Jackson kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Jackson controls the position.

Jackson tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Jackson has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Smith can do anything to dispel that myth.
You can see the frustration on Smith's face as Jackson controls the position.

Jackson decides to stand back up. Jackson steps back and let's Smith get back to his feet.
Smith shoots for a double leg takedown but Jackson sprawls well. He's pushed Smith's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Mac Jackson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bob Smith.
Jackson clinches but Smith breaks the clinch
and Smith counters with a head kick. That will keep Jackson thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jackson misses with a takedown attempt
and Smith counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Jackson is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Smith tries a head kick but it misses.
Mac Jackson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Jackson tries to keep at a distance but Smith has taken the fight into the clinch.
Smith prevents a takedown attempt there.
A right hook to the body lands for Smith.

Smith gets control of Jackson's arms and successfully pulls guard. Smith will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Smith is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Jackson prevents Smith from getting back to his feet.

Jackson passes into half guard.
Jackson seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Smith keeps control of the position for the meantime.

Despite being in the dominant position, Bob Smith just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Smith is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Jackson closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Smith did well to prevent Jackson getting side control.

Smith has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Jackson is working away from the top position though.
Jackson is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Jackson tries to pass to full mount but Smith defends it.
Jackson seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Jackson works his foot free and advances to mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Jackson looking to control and managing it successfully.
Smith tries to hold on but Jackson postures up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jackson takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Smith tries to get back to half guard but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mac Jackson dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Smith tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Jackson swivels and escapes.

Jackson decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Jackson shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Jackson was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Jackson prevents Smith from getting the reversal.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mac Jackson showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Jackson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
