PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Attila Hun (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gegard Mousasi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mousasi has a pretty significant injury - he really shouldn't be fighting right now but he's a warrior and he's here none the less! I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Attila Hun!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Gegard Mousasi !
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hun misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Hun shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Mousasi is trying to defend but Hun finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Mousasi looks gassed!
Hun tries to stand but can't do so whilst Mousasi controls his leg.
Mousasi pushes Hun off looking to stand but Hun dives back in and keeps control.

Hun wants to work for an arm triangle but Mousasi is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Hun tries to stand but can't do so whilst Mousasi controls his leg.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Mousasi closes this distance looking for a takedown but Hun circles away.

Hun moves into the clinch.
Hun is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Mousasi gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Hun scores with a shot to the side of Mousasi 's head.

Hun pulls guard.

Hun is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Hun throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Mousasi got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hun has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mousasi has managed to get both his arms back between Hun's legs - danger averted.

Hun isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Mousasi stacks Hun on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Mousasi !
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Hun is not content to let Mousasi control the position.
Mousasi wants to stand but Hun is controlling his arm.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hun tries to improve position but can't.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Mousasi leaves Hun with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Attila Hun. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hun rushes Mousasi and presses him up against the cage.
Hun misses with a knee strike.
Hun throws a knee to the head but misses.

Hun breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Mousasi looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

and Mousasi decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Hun's guard.
Mousasi wants to control from the top but Hun keeps moving.

Hun is looking to stand up but Mousasi isn't so interested in that idea.
Hun looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Mousasi puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Mousasi prevents Hun from standing back up.
Hun on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Hun tries to get out of the position.
Hun has hold of Mousasi 's hands but Mousasi slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Mousasi wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hun keeps working.
Hun is looking for a sweep. Mousasi is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Gegard Mousasi will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Hun misses with a takedown attempt

and Mousasi moves into the clinch.
Hun stalling in the clinch.
Hun drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Hun with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Hun successfully pulls guard.
Mousasi postures up.

Hun is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mousasi wants to get up but he can't break Hun's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hun utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Hun wants to stand but Mousasi is controlling the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hun looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Mousasi passes into half guard.

Mousasi is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Hun tries to get to full guard but Mousasi has control of the leg.

Hun has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mousasi is working away from the top position though.

Mousasi is looking for a kimura but Hun is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Mousasi to get the leverage.

Mousasi is keen to just control but Hun is a slippery customer.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Hun shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Mousasi as he jumps to the side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Attila Hun. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mousasi shoots for a double leg takedown but Hun sprawls well. He's pushed Mousasi 's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Hun tries to clinch up but Mousasi circles away and keeps his distance.
No luck for Mousasi with that takedown attempt.

and Mousasi counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Hun not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Gegard Mousasi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Hun is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Mousasi can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Hun lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Hun wants to control the pace but Mousasi is squirming around nicely.

Mousasi gets back to half guard.
Hun knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mousasi on the ground.
Mousasi is trying to stand.
Hun working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Mousasi moves into full guard.
Mousasi is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Hun wants to control from the top but Mousasi keeps moving.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Mousasi is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Hun has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Hun prevents Mousasi from getting back to his feet.

Hun wants to stand but Mousasi has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Mousasi manages to capitalize on a mistake by Hun to take his back!
Mousasi lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Mousasi .

Mousasi gets his hands free as Hun looks to control.
Attila Hun has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Gegard Mousasi is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
You can see the frustration on Hun's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Attila Hun.
I think Mousasi has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
