PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Carlos Quintero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Omaly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Omaly has chosen Outside - To Forgive but not Forget as his entrance music. The key to victory for Carlos Quintero has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Carlos Quintero!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mark Omaly!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Robert Douchet and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Quintero shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Quintero stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Quintero looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Quintero leaves Omaly with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Quintero gets a takedown into half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Omaly can do anything to dispel that myth.
Quintero is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Quintero with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Quintero prevents Omaly from getting the reversal.

Quintero goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Omaly is on top in guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Omaly slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Omaly drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Quintero dives on top into guard.

Quintero works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Quintero passes to full mount!
Quintero lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Quintero wants to finish this one by submission but Omaly is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Quintero.
Omaly can't escape the position.
Poor strikes thrown by Quintero there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Omaly is bucking up trying to escape but Quintero cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Quintero moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Omaly has worked his arm free - good work by Omaly!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Quintero thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Quintero in side control, throwing shots but Omaly defends.
Omaly stops Quintero from passing to mount.
Quintero moves into full mount!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Omaly is in a horrible position here. Quintero smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Quintero is looking to clinch.


It looks like Mark Omaly has been cut.

and Omaly counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Quintero!
Omaly can't control as he wanted to and Quintero manages to get the fight back to his half guard.
Omaly seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Quintero does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Quintero is looking to improve his position.
Omaly with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Omaly is trying to control. Quintero wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Omaly really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Quintero. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Quintero moves into full guard.

Omaly is breathing heavily.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Carlos Quintero overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Quintero is on top in guard.
Quintero tries to free his leg and advance position but Omaly is retaining full guard.

Quintero is pushing down on Omaly's leg trying to pass to half guard. Omaly is fighting to maintain full guard but Quintero has managed to sneak the leg through.

Omaly is looking for a sweep. Quintero is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
A looping hook to the body misses from Quintero. Omaly does a little dance to reset his feet.
Omaly takes a jab right on the kisser.
Quintero fails with the takedown

and Omaly counters with a nice double leg into side control. Quintero won't be happy with that.
Quintero is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Omaly off and has taken his back!

Quintero patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?
This has been an exciting period of action!
Quintero is not going to allow Omaly to sit and survive in this position.
