PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Hector Lombard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Honda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Hector Lombard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, James Honda!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Gregory Folan and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Honda shoots in but no luck this time.
Honda scores to the head and body with a nice combination!

Lombard is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Honda's half guard.
Lombard wants to free his trapped foot but Honda is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Lombard in particular looking to stall.
Lombard seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Honda looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Honda works his way to full guard. Good work.
Lombard trying to stand up but can't free himself from Honda's guard.

Lombard drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Lombard jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Lombard gets to his feet. Honda looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Lombard closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Honda to the mat! Honda manages to get full guard.

Honda is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Lombard is aware though and is defending well.

Honda is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Lombard gets to his feet. Honda looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Lombard is breathing heavily.
Lombard shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Honda stops Lombard from getting back to his feet.
Honda takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Honda is working for a kimura but Lombard is defending it quite comfortably.
Lombard is refusing to be controlled, as Honda sits in half guard.

Honda is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Lombard defends it well.

Lombard kicks off Honda and gets to his feet.

Honda is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Lombard defends well.

Lombard tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Lombard wants to stand but Honda is controlling his arm.

Honda manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Honda is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Lombard is just riding it out for now. Honda eventually gives up the hold.

Honda is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Lombard sees it coming and defends easily.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Lombard scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Honda manages to mount him!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hector Lombard dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Honda tries to bum rush Lombard with a series of wild strikes but Lombard uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Lombard throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Honda counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Lombard's guard now.

Honda has gone for a leg lock! Lombard slips out almost immediately though and dives into Honda's guard.
Lombard wants to control from the top but Honda keeps moving.

Honda has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Lombard can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Honda had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Lombard defends it easily.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Lombard stands up from Honda's guard - Lombard perhaps looking for a knockout.
A decent looking cross lands there for Lombard.

Honda gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Lombard to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Lombard's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Lombard is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Honda escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Lombard gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Honda is looking for a triangle but Lombard pushes his legs off easily.
Lombard wants to control from the top but Honda keeps moving.

Hector Lombard overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Honda keeping full guard, as Lombard tries to pass.

Lombard got a little sloppy there for a moment and Honda has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Lombard has managed to get both his arms back between Honda's legs - danger averted.

Honda has his foot on Lombard's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Lombard works his way back into a safe position though.

Honda thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Lombard has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Honda is proving hard to escape from.
Honda controls Lombard momentarily but Lombard frees himself.
Honda lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Lombard!

Honda swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Lombard is now in Honda's guard. A big mistake from Honda there, giving up the dominant position!

Lombard has gone for a leg lock! Honda slips out almost immediately though and dives into Lombard's guard.
Lombard could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Honda wants to control from the top but Lombard keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Honda showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!


Lombard tried to score with a low kick but Honda checks it.
Honda has his takedown stuffed

and Lombard moves into the clinch.

Lombard breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
A head kick misses from Lombard.
Honda throws a series of punches but Lombard moves out of range.

Lombard closes the distance and pushes Honda back into the cage.
Honda tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Lombard smiles and moves away.
Hector Lombard is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Lombard fails to land with a series of punches.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Honda counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Honda.
Honda trying to control the position from guard on top but Lombard is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Lombard is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Honda is controlling him.

Honda drops back looking for a leg! Lombard is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Lombard manages to kick Honda off! Honda jumps back into Lombard's guard.

Honda gets to his feet - Lombard follows without any prompting.
Lombard throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Honda counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Lombard tries to kick Honda off but Honda keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Honda works his way into side control.

Honda tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Honda has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Honda tries to move into full mount but can't pass Lombard's legs.
Lombard regains half guard.
Honda is trying to control the action in half guard but Lombard is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Honda thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Lombard's head.
Honda working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Honda uses his free foot to push down on Lombard's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Lombard.
Lombard is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

Honda goes for an armbar but Lombard turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Lombard.

James Honda seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Honda doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Lombard counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Honda's guard now.
Hector Lombard has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Honda.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

I would just about give that final round to James Honda.
I think Honda has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
