Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Igor Emelianenko! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Samuel Peter! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Daniel Franklin and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A combination from Peter does no damage. Emelianenko throws the kick towards the body but Peter avoids it. Peter shoots in and bounces Emelianenko off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Peter wants to stand but Emelianenko is controlling his posture from full guard. Emelianenko is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Peter seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Emelianenko has his feet on Peter's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. Emelianenko could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Peter ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Emelianenko slaps away a takedown attempt from Peter, before circling back to the center of the mat. Peter gets in close and instigates a clinch. Peter breaks the clinch.

Peter tries to move to full mount but Emelianenko actually manages to regain half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Emelianenko preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Peter stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Emelianenko swivels though and keeps the full guard. Emelianenko wants to stand up but Peter is controlling him.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Peter moves out of range of the body kick from Emelianenko.

Peter lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Emelianenko circles away quickly and effectively. Peter fails with a takedown attempt. Emelianenko has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ. Emelianenko looks to land a body kick but Peter moved away. Samuel Peter is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Emelianenko throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
And that's the end of the fight! Samuel Peter comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Peter has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today.
