The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Carter shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Lashley's guard. Lashley is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Lashley looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Carter wants to pass the guard but Lashley is keeping the position. Carter is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Carter postures up in Lashley's guard and throws a big left but Lashley blocks it. Lashley looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Carter throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Carter postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Carter controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Carter throwing strikes but missing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Carter thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Lashley has an active guard here but Carter has managed to pass into half guard.
Carter has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Carter thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Lashley looking for submissions from an awkward position here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Carter trying to pass the guard but Lashley defending well. Lashley looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Lashley is breathing heavily. Lashley has hold of Carter's hands but Carter slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Lashley actively working from the bottom here. Carter frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Carter looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Carter with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Carter is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Lashley can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Carter controlling his opponent. Carter is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Lashley is surviving well by controlling Carter's body position as best he can.
