Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Velu Beniz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jon Hansen! The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Arvi Lind and Roosa Järviläinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Beniz closes the distance and clinches up with Hansen, looking for a takedown. Beniz pushes Hansen against the cage but Hansen circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Beniz fails with a takedown attempt. Beniz wants to clinch up but Hansen keeps it at a distance. Hansen avoids a kick to the body.
Beniz closes this distance looking for a takedown but Hansen circles away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Velu Beniz. That's going to take a lot out of him. Beniz throws a sloppy head kick and Hansen moves out of range easily. Beniz looks to score with a jab to the body but Hansen is just out of range. Beniz takes a swing at Hansen's ribcage but misses. Beniz throws a big shot that misses. Hansen misses with a body kick. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Beniz misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Beniz throws a series of strikes that have Hansen backpedaling.
Hansen shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Hansen wants to control from the top but Beniz keeps moving.
That's one minute gone in the round. Beniz working for submissions but it's allowed Hansen to get to half guard.
Beniz is breathing heavily. Ground and pound from Hansen. Hansen winds up and cracks Beniz with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Hansen uses his free foot to push down on Beniz's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Beniz. Hansen has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Hansen has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Beniz's face.
Hansen tries to control but Beniz wriggling away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hansen postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Beniz looks a forlorn figure.
Hansen lands a nice shot to the head. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Beniz wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Beniz is squirming around, avoiding Hansen's attempts to control the action. Hansen pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hansen working away from the top, dropping strikes. Hansen cracks Beniz with a big head shot that has him covering up instantly! He's rolled onto his side and the referee has seen enough - this one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!
