Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Dan Hardy! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, James Connelly! The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, James Ackerman and Sam Margolis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Connelly leaves Hardy with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Connelly looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Connelly tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hardy swats him away and circles back towards the center. Hardy throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Connelly throws a low kick, looking for Hardy's leg but Hardy calmly moves out of range. Hardy shoots in for a takedown but Connelly shows good takedown defense. Connelly throws a lazy head kick and Hardy counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Connelly! Hardy goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Connelly turns into him and now he's in Hardy's guard.
Hardy bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Connelly's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hardy trying to control but Connelly is working from the bottom. Hardy lands a couple of digs. Hardy is looking to work some ground and pound but Connelly has wrist control. Connelly working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Hardy. Hardy drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Hardy seems to have locked his on tight now - Connelly screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Hardy, as he picks up the win!
