PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Oshi Takawa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ferdinand Marcos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ferdinand Marcos is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Oshi Takawa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ferdinand Marcos!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Ren Mimura and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marcos scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Marcos lands a slapping body shot.
Takawa takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Takawa could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Nice sprawl there from Marcos as Takawa shoots in.
Marcos throws a series of punches but Takawa moves out of range.

Takawa gets the takedown into side control.
Takawa tries to move to mount but Marcos blocks the move with his legs.
Takawa working away.
Takawa tries to move into full mount but can't pass Marcos's legs.

Takawa wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Marcos, who protects the arm well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Takawa tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Takawa has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Takawa thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Takawa swings around for an armbar but Marcos sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Takawa's guard.
Takawa is breathing heavily.
Marcos wants to control from the top but Takawa keeps moving.
Marcos must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Takawa is looking for a triangle here but Marcos uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Check out the look on Marcos's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Marcos decides to stand back up.
Marcos misses with a two punch combination.
Nice jab there from Marcos.
Marcos throws a right and a left that Takawa avoids nicely.
Good leg kick by Marcos there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Marcos looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Marcos throws a front kick that sends Takawa stumbling back into the cage.
Marcos lands with a cross.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
Takawa fails with the takedown.
Marcos motions for Takawa to come forward. Marcos throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Takawa has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Marcos.
Takawa looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Takawa uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Marcos.
Marcos stuffs the takedown attempt from Takawa. Takawa gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Oshi Takawa. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Marcos goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.


Takawa is rocked!

Marcos moves into the clinch successfully.
Oh Takawa is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Marcos pulls guard.
Takawa seems to have got his legs back now.
Takawa trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Takawa postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Marcos is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Takawa, into his guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Takawa keeping moving, preventing Marcos from controlling successfully.
Takawa looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Marcos puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Takawa is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Marcos pulls his head out easily.
Marcos is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Takawa!

Takawa tries to improve his position but instead Marcos has taken his back!

Marcos is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Takawa knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Takawa for a finish.
Marcos lands shots from the back.

Marcos keeps control of the position as Takawa tries to break free.

Takawa breaks Marcos's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Takawa looking to pass the guard.

Takawa drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Marcos manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Takawa has Marcos in his guard.
Marcos works a leg free and moves into half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Takawa is refusing to be controlled, as Marcos sits in half guard.
Takawa wants to get back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ferdinand Marcos dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Marcos misses with a body kick.
Takawa looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Marcos is fending him off so far but Takawa persists. Nope, Marcos circles away and we're back to standing.
Takawa swats away the attempt to clinch by Marcos.

Marcos gets the takedown into side control.
Takawa looking for a sweep but Marcos has passed into full mount! Oh no!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Marcos is standing up, even though he is in mount.

Marcos fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Takawa sprawls well initially but Marcos persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Takawa is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Takawa trying to get back to full guard but Marcos takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Takawa wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
cage is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Takawa.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Marcos tries to keep control of the position but Takawa is staying busy.
Takawa tries to roll but Marcos sticks to his back.

Marcos working from the back looking to end the fight with a rear naked choke. Takawa is doing well to defend. Marcos seems to have got his hand under the chin though and he's sunk the choke in! Takawa is forced to tap and this one is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Ferdinand Marcos!
