PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Colt Cannon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bongani Jengo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jengo has chosen Même Pas Fatigué as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Colt Cannon!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bongani Jengo!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Steve Smith and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jengo tries to clinch but Cannon is having none of it.
Cannon darts in trying to clinch

and Jengo counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Cannon pushes off an throws an elbow but Jengo leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Cannon lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.

Jengo breaks the clinch.
Jengo looks to land a right hand but Cannon moved out of range.
Jengo throws a hook but Cannon blocks it.
Cannon shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Jengo connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Cannon tries to clinch but Jengo moves away
and Jengo cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Cannon defending well as Jengo loads up on a big left hand.
Jengo lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Jengo throws a hook to the side of Cannon's head but Cannon sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Cannon tries to clinch
and Jengo counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Cannon feints and as Jengo raises his hands in defense, Cannon changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Cannon throws a strike but Jengo rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jengo postures up in Cannon's guard and throws a big left but Cannon blocks it.
Jengo works a leg free and moves into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cannon is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Jengo is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Jengo is looking for a kimura but Cannon is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Jengo to get the leverage.
Cannon wants to improve his position but Jengo is controlling well.
Cannon missing with punches from the bottom.
Jengo has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Cannon is trying to reverse the position but instead Jengo has taken his back - oops!

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Jengo is looking for a rear naked choke here but Cannon reverses the position brilliantly into Jengo's guard!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cannon sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Jengo's guard.
Cannon not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Jengo is trying to maintain the position but Cannon is very close to passing his half guard.

Jengo is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Cannon pulls his head out easily.
Jengo looks gassed!
Jengo wants to improve his position but Cannon is controlling well.

Jengo actively working from the bottom here.
Jengo keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cannon wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jengo keeps working.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Jengo misses the shot to the body.
Cannon falls off balance throwing a combination
and Jengo counters with a one-two to the body.
Cannon looks to clinch
and Jengo counters with a three punch combo that has Cannon backing up. Cannon nods at Jengo to acknowledge the strikes.
Cannon looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Jengo is fending him off so far but Cannon persists. Nope, Jengo circles away and we're back to standing.

Cannon closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Jengo can't do much from the bottom here.
Cannon trying to control the action but Jengo is working from the bottom.
Jengo is trying to improve his position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cannon lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Jengo down.
Cannon in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Cannon wants to stand but Jengo has his arm trapped.
Cannon trying to control the position but Jengo is working away.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Cannon shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Jengo but Jengo pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Colt Cannon. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cannon fails with an attempt to clinch.
Cannon closes the distance but Jengo moves to the side
and Cannon takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Cannon throws a left and a right that both miss
letting Jengo counter with a right hand.
Cannon tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Jengo cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bongani Jengo dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Cannon closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Jengo prevents Cannon from breaking the clinch.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Cannon.
Jengo digs a right hand into Cannon's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Cannon's gas tank.
Jengo wants a takedown but no success here.
A bit of stalling here from Jengo.
Jengo blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

Cannon jumps into guard, dragging Jengo to the mat.
Jengo trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Cannon is trying to keep Jengo in close.
Cannon can't keep his opponent in guard - Jengo advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Jengo working the head and body with strikes.
Jengo prevents Cannon from improving his position.
Jengo passes the guard and advances to mount!

Jengo moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Cannon has worked his arm free - good work by Cannon!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cannon tries to buck Jengo off but Jengo is having none of it.

Jengo is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Cannon knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Jengo tries to advance to mount but Cannon denies him.

Jengo goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Cannon rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Jengo's guard! Nice work there by Cannon!

Jengo working for a triangle but Cannon defends it easily.
Jengo bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Cannon's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jengo passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Jengo trying to control the action but Cannon is working from the bottom.
Jengo advances nicely into full mount.
Jengo sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Jengo is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Cannon is forced to tap! Great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:49 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Bongani Jengo!
