1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Johnny Brickner! The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Igor Prikhodko and Dmitry Maklakov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mathisen tries for a takedown but Brickner sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Brickner looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Mathisen looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Brickner is fending him off so far but Mathisen persists. Nope, Brickner circles away and we're back to standing. Mathisen closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Mathisen fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Mathisen tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mathisen has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Mathisen slows the pace down. Brickner is trying to improve his position. Mathisen is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Brickner is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Brickner is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Mathisen's leg. Oh but that's left an opportunity for Mathisen! He's got an arm triangle... it looks tight! He's rotating and Brickner has tapped! This one is allllll over!
