PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dean Benoit (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Take Ogenawa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Take Ogenawa told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Dean Benoit!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Take Ogenawa!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Ren Mimura and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Benoit stuffs the takedown.

Ogenawa feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Ogenawa forces his way into half guard.
Benoit wants to improve his position but Ogenawa is controlling well.

Ogenawa is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Benoit knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ogenawa on the ground.

Ogenawa is trying to work for a kimura but Benoit is defending well.

Benoit on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Benoit tries to get out of the position.
Ogenawa seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Benoit does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Benoit wants to control but Ogenawa is keeping busy.
Benoit could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Benoit tries to get to full guard but Ogenawa has control of the leg.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ogenawa is working for a kimura but Benoit is defending it quite comfortably.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Benoit bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Benoit wants to clinch up but Ogenawa keeps it at a distance.
Ogenawa shoots in and drives through. Benoit sprawls well.
Ogenawa tries for a takedown but Benoit sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Dean Benoit has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Take Ogenawa.
Ogenawa avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Benoit scores with a three punch combo!
Benoit attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Ogenawa avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Benoit moves in looking to clinch but Ogenawa pushes him off.
Benoit keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
The fight stays on the outside here - Benoit looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Benoit throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
The fight stays on the outside here - Benoit looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Ogenawa throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Benoit's waist but Benoit gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ogenawa off to one side.

Ogenawa tries to keep at a distance but Benoit has taken the fight into the clinch.
Benoit can't break the clinch.

Ogenawa gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.

Ogenawa is trying for a kimura here. Benoit looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Ogenawa wins by kimura!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:48 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Take Ogenawa!
