PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dmitri Karpanov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leonid Dmitriev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Leonid Dmitriev was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dmitri Karpanov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Leonid Dmitriev!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Dillan Fox and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Karpanov gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Dmitriev trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Dmitriev wants to pass the guard but Karpanov is keeping the position.

Dmitriev postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Karpanov is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Dmitriev, into his guard.

Dmitriev is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Karpanov is aware though and is defending well.
Karpanov missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Dmitriev looking for a guillotine here but Karpanov defends easily.

Karpanov trying to control but Dmitriev is working from the bottom.

Dmitriev working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Karpanov doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Karpanov manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Dmitriev has his foot on Karpanov's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Karpanov works his way back into a safe position though.

Karpanov moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Dmitriev.
Karpanov wants to control but Dmitriev is keeping him busy.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Dmitriev is trying to improve his position.
Karpanov working away.
Karpanov works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Karpanov tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Dmitriev tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Karpanov wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Karpanov lands a decent elbow from side control.
Karpanov scores with punches from side control.
Dmitriev gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Karpanov keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Karpanov is trying to control. Dmitriev wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Dmitriev moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Dmitriev working for submissions but it's allowed Karpanov to get to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dmitriev is staying active underneath Karpanov, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Dmitriev moves into full guard.

Karpanov is just content to waste time from the top position. Dmitriev takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Karpanov avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Karpanov trying to control but Dmitriev is working from the bottom.
Karpanov has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Dmitriev working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Karpanov doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Karpanov manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Dmitriev has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Karpanov can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Karpanov decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Dmitriev lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.

Dmitriev drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Dmitriev advances position into side control!

Karpanov sneaks back into half guard.

Dmitriev is looking for a kimura here.

Dmitriev is trying to work for a kimura but Karpanov is defending well.

Dmitriev is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Karpanov wants to control but Dmitriev is keeping busy.
Leonid Dmitriev has got the better of the ground game so far.

Karpanov has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Dmitriev is working away from the top position though.

Karpanov kicks Dmitriev off and gets back to his feet.
Dmitriev avoids a punch combination nicely.

Karpanov shoots in and bounces Dmitriev off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Dmitriev has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Karpanov can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Karpanov wants to stand but Dmitriev is controlling his posture from full guard.

Dmitriev can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Karpanov controls the pace.

Karpanov is sitting in close to Dmitriev's body. Dmitriev has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Karpanov is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Karpanov is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Dmitriev.
