PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kenny Lowgrade (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Baba Ali (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lowgrade comes to the cage accompanied by S.O.S. Baba Ali is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kenny Lowgrade!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Baba Ali!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Summer Carpenter and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lowgrade closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Ali is staying active underneath Lowgrade, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Lowgrade wants to get back to his feet.
Lowgrade wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ali keeps working.
Ali looks like he's trying to stand up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lowgrade trying to control the pace.

Lowgrade decides to stand and escape the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lowgrade fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Lowgrade looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Lowgrade closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Lowgrade lands in his opponent's guard.
Lowgrade trying to control but Ali is working from the bottom.

Lowgrade trying to control the position from guard on top but Ali is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Lowgrade is stalling in the full guard.

Lowgrade drops back, looking for a kneebar! Ali looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Ali looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Ali!

Ali's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lowgrade is not content to let Ali control the position.
Lowgrade is trying to buck Ali off.
Lowgrade is trying to control Ali's posture but Ali avoids it.
Ali is staying tight to Lowgrade's torso, preventing him from escaping.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Lowgrade keeps Ali under control for a moment.

Ali thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ali has knee on belly and moves into mount.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Lowgrade tries to hold on but Ali pushes him away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lowgrade is looking to get to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kenny Lowgrade dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Lowgrade thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Ali sneaks out the side door and pushes Lowgrade away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Ali checks the leg kick nicely there.
Ali keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Ali avoids the head kick by Lowgrade.
Lowgrade shoots in but Ali avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Ali feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Ali postures up.

Ali wants to pass the guard but Lowgrade is keeping the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Lowgrade controls Ali momentarily but Ali frees himself.
Ali content to stall in guard here.

Ali drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Ali jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Lowgrade is trying to hold Ali in close to prevent damage but Ali has managed to pass into half guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Lowgrade trying to control here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Lowgrade shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Ali counters with a nice double leg into side control. Lowgrade won't be happy with that.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kenny Lowgrade. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lowgrade wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Lowgrade is being controlled here.
Ali tries to advance to mount but Lowgrade denies him.
Lowgrade wants to control but Ali postures up.
Ali should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Lowgrade wants to get back to his feet.
Lowgrade can't do much from the bottom here.
Lowgrade trying to control but Ali flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Ali controlling from the back.
Lowgrade trying to control the position but Ali manages to sink in the hooks.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Kenny Lowgrade just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Lowgrade has his takedown stuffed

and Ali counters with a shoot takedown. Lowgrade fights it but they end up in guard.

Lowgrade has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ali can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Baba Ali showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Ali decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Lowgrade is looking to get back to is feet but Ali passes into side control.

Ali thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Lowgrade wants to control but Ali postures up.
Ali is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Lowgrade will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Lowgrade is not content to let Ali control the position.
Lowgrade is looking to regain half guard here but Ali keeps moving and retains side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ali in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Lowgrade is pushing Ali's head away, looking to escape. Ali manages to hold on to the position though.
You can see the frustration on Lowgrade's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Baba Ali has got the better of the ground game so far.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Lowgrade has his takedown stuffed

and Ali counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Ali prevents Lowgrade from getting back to his feet.
Ali is pushing down on Lowgrade's leg trying to pass to half guard. Lowgrade is fighting to maintain full guard but Ali has managed to sneak the leg through.
Ali is thwarting Lowgrade's attempts to control the position.
Lowgrade wants to get back to full guard.
Lowgrade trying to hold on to Ali's head to control him but Ali postures up.

Ali wants to work for an arm triangle but Lowgrade is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ali wants to pass the guard but Lowgrade is defending well.

Ali is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Lowgrade defends it well.

Lowgrade trying to control from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Ali counters with a takedown into side control.
Lowgrade trying to remain calm as Ali controls from the top position.

Ali swings around for an armbar but Lowgrade sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Ali's guard.
Ali doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Ali keeping moving, preventing Lowgrade from controlling successfully.
Ali wants to stand but Lowgrade is controlling the position.
Ali has a closed guard, preventing Lowgrade from standing up.
Lowgrade won't allow Ali to sweep him here.

And that's the end of the fight!
Baba Ali comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Ali has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
