Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Carlos Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Policarpio Mendoza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Carlos Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Policarpio Mendoza!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, James Glass and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie shoots in for a takedown but Mendoza shows good takedown defense.
Mendoza stuns Gracie with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Mendoza gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Mendoza is trying to control the position but Gracie postures up.
Mendoza thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Gracie wants to control from the top but Mendoza keeps moving.
Mendoza controls Gracie momentarily but Gracie frees himself.
Gracie postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Gracie avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Mendoza is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Mendoza throws a big shot that misses.
Gracie checks the leg kick.

Gracie scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Gracie is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Mendoza is looking to control Gracie's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Mendoza avoid being mounted?
Gracie wants to pass the guard but Mendoza is defending well.

Gracie seems to be looking for submissions.

Gracie is trying to work for a kimura but Mendoza is defending well.
Mendoza is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Mendoza really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gracie. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Mendoza is trying to maintain the position but Gracie is very close to passing his half guard.
Gracie lands strikes from half guard.

Gracie stops Mendoza from getting back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mendoza is trying to control Gracie's posture but Gracie avoids it.

That's time! Gracie's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Mendoza is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Gracie pushing down on Mendoza's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Mendoza is defending against the submission attempts here by Gracie.
Gracie uses his free foot to push down on Mendoza's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Mendoza.

Gracie jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Mendoza is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Mendoza and Gracie has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Mendoza takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Gracie is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Mendoza knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
A lull in the action here as Gracie stalls from top position.

Carlos Gracie overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Mendoza is working to avoid the ground and pound but Gracie connects with a decent elbow.
Mendoza regains half guard there - taking advantage of Gracie's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Mendoza wants to improve his position but Gracie is controlling well.
Gracie is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Mendoza!

Gracie has control of Mendoza's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Mendoza regains control of the situation pretty easily.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Mendoza tries to reverse the position but Gracie maintains control.
Mendoza trying desperately to get to his feet.
Gracie postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Mendoza looks a forlorn figure.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mendoza is looking to stand up but Gracie isn't so interested in that idea.

Gracie drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Mendoza dives on top into guard.

Mendoza wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gracie keeps working.

Gracie bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Mendoza's guard.

Gracie slips a nice elbow through Mendoza's hands, connecting with Mendoza's forehead.

Gracie is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Gracie working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Gracie looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Policarpio Mendoza has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Carlos Gracie is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Gracie is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Mendoza defends it well.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Gracie, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
