PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Pedro Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mankee King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Davis comes to the cage accompanied by Pts. of. Athrty. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Pedro Davis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mankee King!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Hugh Johnson and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Davis gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows King to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Davis is trying to keep King in close.
Davis lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for King!

Davis working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Davis misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

That's one minute gone in the round.
King is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Davis can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as King is looking to escape.
King wants to hold on but Davis pushes him away.

Davis is going oldschool here, as he tries to force King to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so King shrugs it off.

Davis jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… King is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by King and Davis has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Davis wants to lay and pray for a moment but King keeps working.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Davis wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by King, who protects the arm well.
King tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Davis trying to control the action but King is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Davis tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if King can do anything to dispel that myth.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
King tries to bench press Davis off him but Davis keeps the position.

Davis is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, King has escaped the position, nice work there.
Davis trying to control the position but King is working away.

Davis tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Davis has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Davis is breathing heavily.
Davis tries to move into full mount but can't pass King's legs.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
King is trying to buck Davis off.
Davis tries to advance to mount but can't.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
King is looking to regain half guard here but Davis keeps moving and retains side control.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Davis shoots in and bounces King off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pedro Davis dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


A slow jab from King misses its intended target.
Mankee King seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Davis gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and King decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Davis's guard.
Davis controls King momentarily but King frees himself.
Davis keeping full guard, as King tries to pass.

That's one minute gone in the round.
King is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Davis is trying to control the position from the bottom.
King lands a couple of digs.
Davis working a defensive guard but King passes into half guard.
King is thwarting Davis's attempts to control the position.
King thows a huge punch but Davis dodges it nicely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Davis is trying to control but can't.
Davis regains full guard. Nicely done.
Davis is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
King thows a big elbow that misses.
Davis controls King momentarily but King frees himself.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

King shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Davis is looking to improve his position.
Davis has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. King is working away from the top position though.
Davis gets full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Davis is pulling down on King's head. It's preventing any offense from King, at least for the moment.
King trying to control but Davis is working from the bottom.
King won't allow Davis to sweep him here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
King is looking to work some ground and pound but Davis has wrist control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mankee King showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



King drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Davis is trying to control the position from the bottom.
King should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
King working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
King trying to control the position from guard on top but Davis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Davis has his hands on King's head, controlling the position.
King loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Davis bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in King's guard.
Davis sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed King's guard.
Davis uses his free foot to push down on King's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for King.

Davis is working for a guillotine from mount but King frees his head quite easily.
King holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Davis tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Davis is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But King has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from King!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
King throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Davis works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
King lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
King missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
King must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Davis is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Mankee King has got the better of the ground game so far.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Davis wants to sweep here but King controlling him for the moment.
King trying to control the position from guard on top but Davis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Davis wants to clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Davis shoots and misses

and King counters with a nice double leg into side control. Davis won't be happy with that.
Davis tries to buck King off but King is having none of it.
King controls the position.
King trying to control the position but Davis is working away.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mankee King comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well King has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
