PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jay Gonzales (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ty McKey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Ty McKey was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McKey shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

McKey is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Gonzales to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Gonzales shrugs it off.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Gonzales keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
McKey postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Gonzales looks a forlorn figure.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Gonzales tries to clinch but McKey is having none of it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
McKey shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Gonzales but Gonzales pushes him off and we're back to square one.

McKey stands up and waves to Gonzales to follow him.

McKey closes the distance but Gonzales moves to the side
and Gonzales counters with a lovely shot to the body.

Gonzales fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with McKey, pushing him back against the cage.

McKey stuffs the takedown attempt from Gonzales. Gonzales gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jay Gonzales. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gonzales lands with a kick to the temple. McKey shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

and McKey counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
McKey wants to pass the guard but Gonzales is keeping the position.

McKey stands and steps away. Gonzales gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Ty McKey showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

McKey drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and McKey jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

McKey takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
McKey wants to stand up but Gonzales has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Gonzales is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but McKey pulls his head out easily.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Ty McKey is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
McKey pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Gonzales tries to hold on but McKey postures up.

McKey has hold of Gonzales's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Gonzales manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Gonzales knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for McKey on the ground.

Gonzales tries to lock up and control but McKey gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
