PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Math Prush (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Max Rivera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Math Prush!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Max Rivera!
The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Nard Betker and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Prush blocks a head kick by Rivera.

Prush feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Prush is stalling in the full guard.

Rivera keeping moving, preventing Prush from controlling successfully.
Prush content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Prush throwing strikes but missing.
Prush stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rivera swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Prush loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Rivera wants to clinch.
Rivera throws a big shot that misses.

Prush closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Prush displaying some good clinch control by pressing Rivera up against the cage.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Prush breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Prush throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Rivera stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Prush takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Prush connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Prush stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Prush circles away from the clinch attempt.

Prush scoring well with a low kick there.
Prush throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Prush moves into range and connects with a jab.
Prush comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Prush looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Rivera!
Rivera can't escape the position.
Prush has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Prush can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Rivera is looking to escape.

Prush throwing strikes here but Rivera is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Prush has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Rivera's face.

Rivera is staying active underneath Prush, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Rivera wants to clinch up but Prush keeps it at a distance.
Prush fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Prush swings for the body but Rivera moves out of range.
Prush is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

Prush looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Prush trying to control from half guard but Rivera is working away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Math Prush dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Prush is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Prush misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Rivera.
Rivera throws a head kick that misses.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Rivera stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Rivera wants it to stay on the feet.
Rivera tries a head kick but it misses.
Prush shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Rivera sprawls well. Rivera wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Prush gets slowly back to his feet.
Good leg kick by Prush there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Prush shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rivera as he jumps to the side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Math Prush. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Rivera doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Prush counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Rivera throws a leg kick which misses Prush's front leg but catches the back leg as Prush tries to avoid it.
Rivera stuffs the takedown attempt from Prush. Prush gets slowly back to his feet.
Prush closes this distance looking for a takedown but Rivera circles away.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Rivera takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Rivera chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Prush can pounce on him.
Math Prush seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Prush swats away the attempt to clinch by Rivera.
Prush shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rivera as he jumps to the side.
Rivera looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Prush lands with a good body shot.
Rivera closes the distance looking to clinch
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Rivera throws a head kick that misses.
Prush throws a nice inside leg kick.
Rivera stuffs the takedown.

Prush is looking to wear down Rivera with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

Prush throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Rivera checks a leg kick.
Rivera needs to keep his hands up - Prush had a free shot at his head there.
Rivera lands a nice leg kick that just misses Prush's sensitive parts.
Prush bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Rivera's head backwards.
Rivera throws the kick towards the body but Prush avoids it.
Rivera is looking to land body kicks.
Prush is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Prush digs a good body shot into Rivera's ribs.
Rivera throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Prush scores with a hook to the body. Rivera takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

and Prush counters with a nice leg kick.

Prush really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Prush buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Prush connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

Prush turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Rivera throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Prush is pushing down on Rivera's leg trying to pass to half guard. Rivera is fighting to maintain full guard but Prush has managed to sneak the leg through.
Prush thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Rivera's head.
Prush is taking a breather. Rivera says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Prush's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The fighters are battling for position here. Rivera manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Prush accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Prush's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Prush trying to control but Rivera is working from the bottom.
Rivera seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Rivera working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Prush.
Prush is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Prush trying to control the position from guard on top but Rivera is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Math Prush dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

It looks like Math Prush has been cut.
Prush wants to break free but Rivera has control.

Prush has Rivera pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Rivera manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Rivera pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
Rivera is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Prush is keeping busy.

Rivera pushes off an throws an elbow but Prush leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Prush swings wildly with an uppercut but Rivera uses good head movement to avoid it.
Prush using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Rivera has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Prush is trying to break the clinch but Rivera has him pressed against the cage.

Rivera misses with an elbow over the top.
Rivera's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Prush throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Rivera blocks it with crossed arms.

Rivera is fighting off a takedown attempt but Prush is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Rivera to the mat. Rivera regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Prush looking to sit in guard and control but Rivera gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Rivera got a little sloppy there for a moment and Prush has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Rivera has managed to get both his arms back between Prush's legs - danger averted.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Prush lands with a slapping head kick.

Prush closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Prush lands in his opponent's guard.
Prush controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Rivera working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Prush.
Prush will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Rivera is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Math Prush showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Prush has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
