The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sambrosa fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Burnett sprawls well initially but Sambrosa persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Burnett looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Burnett is staying active underneath Sambrosa, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Sambrosa lands strikes from half guard. Sambrosa stands up from half guard. Sambrosa fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Sambrosa forces Burnett back against the cage and clinches. Sambrosa breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Sambrosa shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Burnett is trying to defend but Sambrosa finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Sambrosa wants to control but Burnett is keeping him busy. Burnett is defending against the submission attempts here by Sambrosa.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sambrosa wants to stand up but Burnett is controlling the position.
Sambrosa tries to pass to full mount but Burnett defends it. Sambrosa is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Sambrosa is keen to just control but Burnett is a slippery customer. Burnett looks like he's trying to stand up.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. A punch combination from Sambrosa misses. Burnett ducks under a wild hook from Sambrosa. Sambrosa moves into the clinch. Sambrosa is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body. Burnett can't find room to land a body shot as Sambrosa controls the action.

Burnett being controlled here momentarily. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Burnett throws and elbow that misses. Sambrosa uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Burnett's guard. Nice move by Sambrosa!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sambrosa tries to free his leg and advance position but Burnett is retaining full guard. Sambrosa sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Burnett's guard. Sambrosa wants to pass the guard but Burnett is defending well. Sambrosa takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Burnett is trying to control but can't.
Sambrosa performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Burnett is looking for a sweep. Sambrosa is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Sambrosa is figuring out what he wants to do next. Sambrosa wants to stand up but Burnett has a hold of him and won't allow it. Burnett wants to get back to full guard. Sambrosa gets to his feet - back to striking we go! Burnett misses with a series of wild punches.
Burnett tries for a takedown but Sambrosa circles away easily and Sambrosa counters with an inside leg kick. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Daniel Sambrosa dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Burnett ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Sambrosa tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Burnett paws at him with a jab and circles away. Burnett shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Sambrosa counters with a big head kick but Burnett shrugs it off. Sambrosa shoots in and bounces Burnett off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Burnett can't keep his opponent in guard - Sambrosa advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Sambrosa is looking to take a break and control but Burnett is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Sambrosa gets to his feet - back to striking we go! Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sambrosa gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Sambrosa lands an uppercut. The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Sambrosa takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life. Sambrosa is working for takedown but Burnett is calmly controlling the position for now. Sambrosa fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Sambrosa keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Burnett's efforts to push away. Sambrosa's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Sambrosa drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sambrosa trying to control the position from guard on top but Burnett is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Burnett is on top in guard.
Burnett passes Sambrosa's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Burnett is working for a kimura but Sambrosa is defending it quite comfortably.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Burnett lands a nice short elbow.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Burnett is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Sambrosa moves into full guard.

Sambrosa is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Sambrosa wants to control but Burnett passes easily into half guard.
Sambrosa kicks off Burnett and gets to his feet. Burnett defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Sambrosa. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Daniel Sambrosa. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Burnett shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Sambrosa sprawls well. Sambrosa wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Burnett gets slowly back to his feet. Burnett throws a right hand that Sambrosa ducks under and follows up with a left that Sambrosa also avoids with ease. Sambrosa feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Sambrosa postures up and lands a big shot to Burnett's brow. Sambrosa passes Burnett's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Sambrosa is looking to advance position but Burnett won't allow it. Burnett is trying to stand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Burnett wants to clinch up but Sambrosa keeps it at a distance. Sambrosa has his takedown stuffed and Burnett counters with a stiff right hand. Sambrosa throws a combination that misses and Burnett counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Both fighters are breathing heavily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Sambrosa slows down the pace here.

Sambrosa wants to pass the guard but Burnett is keeping the position. Burnett keeping moving, preventing Sambrosa from controlling successfully. Sambrosa sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. Sambrosa stands up from Burnett's guard - Sambrosa perhaps looking for a knockout. Burnett throws a body punch but Sambrosa moves out of range. Sambrosa lands with a kick to the temple. Burnett shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?" Sambrosa displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Burnett.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Burnett fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Sambrosa checks it well. Sambrosa fails in his attempt to clinch. Ouch! a nice leg kick from Sambrosa, right into the meat.

Sambrosa fails to land the takedown. DJ Burnett has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Burnett with a poor takedown and Sambrosa counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Burnett throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Daniel Sambrosa is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Burnett is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Sambrosa jumps into side control!
And that's the end of the fight! Daniel Sambrosa showed his dominance in that final round. Well Sambrosa has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
