Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Iron Jake! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Arnel Pineda! The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Anni Minnemäki and Johanna Lukiainen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jake scores with a three punch combo!
It looks like Arnel Pineda has been cut. Jake will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Jake throws a half hearted mid kick. Pineda closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Pineda thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Jake wants to improve his position but Pineda is controlling well.
Pineda thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Jake to regain full guard. Jake bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Pineda's guard. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Pineda has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Jake can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Jake could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Jake wants to stand but Pineda has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Jake missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Pineda utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pineda is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Jake accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Jake throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Jake won't allow Pineda to get back to his feet.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Jake moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. Pineda looks gassed! Jake is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Pineda misses with a takedown attempt - Jake sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. A jab-cross combination lands for Jake and sends Pineda crashing to the mat! Jake follows him down to the mat - Pineda regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet! This has been an exciting period of action! Jake thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Pineda's head. Jake sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Pineda defending well though. Jake is trying to control the action in half guard but Pineda is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pineda trying to hold on to Jake's head to control him but Jake postures up.
Pineda wants to get back to full guard. Jake trying to control from half guard but Pineda is working away. Pineda has a hand on Jake's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Jake takes advantage of the position though and mounts him! Jake tries to control but Pineda wriggling away.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jake throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Jake avoids the attempt from Pineda to control. Jake throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage. Pineda wants to control but Jake is having none of it. Pineda keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Pineda can do anything to dispel that myth.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Jake throws some wild stikes that Pineda manages to avoid easily.
Pineda blocking the ground and pound. Jake can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Pineda is looking to escape. Pineda wants to control but Jake is having none of it. Pineda flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Pineda tries to reverse the position but Jake maintains control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Iron Jake dominated that round. The cut man is working on Arnel Pineda's cut. That's time! Back to the action!
Jake stalks Pineda and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Pineda's face. Pineda staggers backwards, shaken.
That has opened up Arnel Pineda's cut even more. Arnel Pineda seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Jake throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Pineda dives in and grabs Jake's left leg, looking for a takedown. Jake pushes down on Pineda's head and hops out. Jake lands a left and a right that sends Pineda crashing to the canvas! Jake dives into mount looking to finish!
The cut above Arnel Pineda's eye is starting to cause him problems now. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Jake throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage. Jake avoids the attempt from Pineda to control. Jake throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Pineda is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Pineda tries to hold on but Jake postures up. Jake takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Pineda is breathing heavily. Jake wants to control the pace but Pineda is squirming around nicely.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jake looking to ground and pound but Pineda is blocking nicely. Pineda keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Pineda is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Jake scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Pineda?
Arnel Pineda's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters. Jake content just to control the position here. Pineda is wriggling around trying to escape.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Jake in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
The referee calls the doctor in to look at Arnel Pineda's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:49 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Iron Jake!
