PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ferdynand Kiepski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yasegawa Masaki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ferdynand Kiepski had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 157.9lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ferdynand Kiepski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Yasegawa Masaki!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Summer Carpenter and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kiepski doesn't manage to clinch there - Masaki circles away.
Kiepski looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Masaki defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Kiepski.

Masaki looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Kiepski will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Masaki controlling from the top position.
Kiepski looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Masaki stands and throws Kiepski's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Masaki stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Masaki shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Masaki was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Kiepski reaches up to try and control the position but Masaki seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Kiepski rolls and tries to escape and now Masaki has his back!
Masaki is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Masaki gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Masaki gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Masaki apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Masaki throws out a loose jab but Kiepski uses good head movement to avoid it.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Masaki gets a takedown into half guard.
Masaki keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Let's hope that Masaki has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Masaki wants to pass the guard but Kiepski is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Masaki sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Masaki passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Kiepski!
Kiepski tries to hold on but Masaki postures up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Masaki controlling the position easily from mount.
I looks like Masaki might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Masaki with shots to the head and body - Kiepski looks very uncomfortable down there.

Masaki jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Kiepski manages to avoid the submission attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Masaki content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Kiepski struggling a bit here.
Kiepski tries to improve position but can't.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Masaki trying to control the position but Kiepski is working away.

Despite being in the dominant position, Yasegawa Masaki just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Masaki bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Masaki is looking to take a break and control but Kiepski is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Masaki decides to stand up, so the ref orders Kiepski to his feet.

Masaki darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Kiepski looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yasegawa Masaki dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Masaki fails with an attempt to clinch.
Kiepski shoots and misses

and Masaki counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Still in half guard, Masaki seems content to control.
Yasegawa Masaki has got the better of the ground game so far.

Masaki postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Kiepski to stand up.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Masaki has managed to clinch.

Masaki pulls guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Masaki working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kiepski doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Masaki is tightening it up a little... Kiepski has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Kiepski reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Kiepski taps out! nice BJJ there by Masaki!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:21 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Yasegawa Masaki!
