Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Clayton Hayward (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yoshiro Samuray (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Yoshiro Samuray is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Clayton Hayward! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Yoshiro Samuray! The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Steve Erwin and Bruno Hogan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hayward tries to clinch up but Samuray circles away and keeps his distance. Hayward looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Samuray is fending him off so far but Hayward persists. Nope, Samuray circles away and we're back to standing. Hayward tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Samuray stuffs the takedown. Hayward shoots in for a takedown but Samuray shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Clayton Hayward. That's going to take a lot out of him. Hayward darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Samuray is looking to improve his position.
Samuray wants to sweep but Hayward has passed to side control! Samuray tries to buck Hayward off but Hayward is having none of it. Hayward trying to control the position but Samuray is working away. Hayward decides to stand back up. Hayward steps back and let's Samuray get back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Samuray misses with a jab, cross combination.
Samuray pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Hayward fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Samuray, pushing him back against the cage. Hayward gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Samuray.
Hayward stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body. Hayward turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Hayward manages to end up in side control. Samuray tries to improve position but can't. Hayward is trying to get an arm triangle but Samuray is defending well. Hayward is breathing heavily. Hayward is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Samuray has escaped the position, nice work there. Samuray is looking to regain half guard here but Hayward keeps moving and retains side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hayward has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Samuray misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Samuray throws a head kick that misses and Hayward counters with a single leg into guard. Samuray didn't expect that. Samuray manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Hayward manages to get himself to full guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Samuray landing some decent shots from guard. Samuray with a flurry of punches that miss. Samuray landing with the ground and pound.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Samuray scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Hayward has momentary wrist control but Samuray slips an elbow through the middle. Samuray stands up over Hayward, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Samuray chips away with some ground and pound. Samuray postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Samuray throws a strike but Hayward rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Samuray looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Samuray is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Samuray is on top in guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hayward is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Samuray stands up over Hayward, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Hayward working a defensive guard here.
Hayward looking for a sweep. Not yet Hayward, not yet. Samuray lands a couple of decent looking shots. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Samuray content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Samuray works over Hayward with some ground and pound from guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Clayton Hayward dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
A nice leg kick lands there from Samuray. Samuray tries a head kick but it misses.
Hayward fails with a takedown attempt. Samuray throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Hayward swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Hayward avoids the head kick by Samuray.
No joy there for Samuray, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Hayward throws a right and a left that Samuray avoids nicely. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hayward throws a sloppy head kick and Samuray counters with a two punch combo. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Samuray throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Samuray blocks a head kick by Hayward.
Hayward takes a swing at Samuray's ribcage but misses.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hayward has his takedown stuffed and Samuray counters with a two punch combo. A head kick misses from Samuray. A right-left combo lands from Samuray. Samuray throws a right and a left that Hayward avoids nicely. Samuray throws a leg kick but Hayward sees it coming and moves out of range. Samuray throws a right and a left that Hayward avoids nicely. Hayward throws a right hand that Samuray ducks under and follows up with a left that Samuray also avoids with ease. Hayward clinches. Samuray has clasped his hands together around Hayward's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Samuray is chipping away with strikes.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Samuray working away. Samuray is putting a hurting on Hayward here, landing some big shots from side control. Samuray has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Samuray working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Samuray working away. Samuray is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Hayward has escaped the position, nice work there. Samuray scores with a couple of short elbows. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Samuray postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Samuray in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Hayward is trying to improve his position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Samuray is working to tighten is grip on Hayward's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Hayward has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Samuray is really squeezing tight and eventually Hayward passes out! Samuray breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
