Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Silvester Szymanski! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Lebron Daniels! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Steve Smith and Alec Ball.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Daniels fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Szymanski avoids it really well and circles away. No luck for Daniels with that takedown attempt. Daniels closes this distance looking for a takedown but Szymanski circles away. Silvester Szymanski has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lebron Daniels. Szymanski shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Daniels is trying to defend but Szymanski finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Szymanski is trying to control. Daniels wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Szymanski sitting and controlling from the half guard. Szymanski is looking for a kimura but Daniels is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Szymanski to get the leverage. Daniels works his way to full guard. Good work. Daniels tries to land a sweep but no joy. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Daniels bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Szymanski's guard. Szymanski wants to stand but Daniels is controlling the position. Szymanski looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
That's one minute gone in the round. Daniels throwing strikes but missing. Daniels throws a big right hand that misses. Daniels lands a couple of decent looking shots. Daniels postures up in Szymanski's guard and throws a big left but Szymanski blocks it. Szymanski looking for a guillotine here but Daniels defends easily.
Szymanski is breathing heavily. Daniels distracts Szymanski with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Szymanski preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Szymanski utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Daniels throws and elbow that misses. Szymanski uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Daniels's guard. Nice move by Szymanski! Szymanski loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Szymanski trying to control the position from guard on top but Daniels is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Daniels is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Daniels is trying to keep Szymanski in close.
Szymanski working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Szymanski wants to stand but Daniels has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Daniels is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Daniels trying to mount his opponent but Szymanski defends it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Szymanski trying to control here.
Daniels throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Daniels stops Szymanski from getting back to his feet.
Daniels throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Daniels looks to land a strike but Szymanski avoids it nicely and regains full guard. Daniels pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Szymanski is keeping the position for now. Daniels loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Szymanski goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Szymanski swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Daniels. Daniels fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Szymanski sprawls well initially but Daniels persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Szymanski looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Szymanski pushes Daniels off and gets back to his feet. Daniels shoots and misses and Szymanski counters with a nice double leg into guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! There's a bit of a scramble here and now Daniels is on top in guard.
Daniels stands up over his opponent, looking to dive in with a big punch. Here he comes, superman style! Oh, the punch misses and Szymanski has got him in a triangle choke for good measure! Oh no! Daniels manages to get his head free but now Szymanski has transitioned to an armbar! Daniels grimaces and is forced to tap! Beautiful Jiu Jitsu from Szymanski! I'd be surprised if that didn't end up as submission of the night!
