The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shingen leaves Katsu with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Shingen gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Katsu counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Shingen! Katsu is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Shingen to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Shingen shrugs it off. Katsu working for a submission but Shingen is keeping him at bay. Katsu seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Shingen is holding on tight.
Katsu with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Katsu looking to isolate an arm here. Shingen doesn't see it coming and as Katsu extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Katsu!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Hideaki Katsu!
