Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Genki Dama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ed Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nelson has chosen Stephen Lynch - Special Ed as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Nelson throws a hook to the side of Dama's head but Dama sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Dama tries to clinch but Nelson is having none of it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Nelson remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Nelson wants to control the pace but Dama is squirming around nicely.
Nelson tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Nelson misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Nelson cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Nelson lands with a hook. Dama tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
The fighters circle momentarily. Nelson darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Nelson closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Nelson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Dama with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Nelson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Nelson tries to pass to full mount but Dama defends it.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
