PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nick Trainner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Macadam Baird (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Nick Trainner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Macadam Baird!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Aafke Stam and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Trainner fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Baird looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Trainner is fending him off so far but Baird persists. Nope, Trainner circles away and we're back to standing.
Baird has his takedown stuffed

and Trainner moves into the clinch.
Trainner is pressed up against the cage. Baird has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Trainner down to the mat. Trainner avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Nick Trainner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Macadam Baird.
Trainner defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Baird.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Baird.
Baird takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

Baird throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Trainner was covering up waiting for the punch and Baird finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Trainner striking off his back but it's not causing Baird any problems.
Trainner controls Baird momentarily but Baird frees himself.

Trainner had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Baird defends it easily.
Baird trying to control the position from guard on top but Trainner is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Trainner tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Baird in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Trainner is trying to hold Baird in close to prevent damage but Baird has managed to pass into half guard.
Trainner avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Baird.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Trainner doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Baird counters with a single leg into guard. Trainner didn't expect that.
Trainner is trying to keep Baird in close.
Baird connects with a couple of short punches.
Baird working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Trainner's head.
Trainner trying to keep a closed guard but Baird is proving a slippery customer.
Baird won't allow Trainner to get back to his feet.

Trainner had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Baird defends it easily.
Trainner is breathing heavily.
Baird trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Trainner looking to hit a scissor sweep but Baird is one step ahead there.
Trainner is trying to hold Baird in close to prevent damage but Baird has managed to pass into half guard.
Trainner is trying to stand back up but Baird is controlling him

Baird working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Baird thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Baird is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Trainner gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Baird counters with a single leg into guard. Trainner didn't expect that.

Trainner has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Baird can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Baird content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Baird lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Baird drops back, looking for a kneebar! Trainner looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Trainner looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Trainner!

Trainner thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Baird struggling a bit here.

Trainner working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Baird can't do much from the bottom here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Macadam Baird dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Baird shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Trainner napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Macadam Baird has got the better of the ground game so far.
Baird trying to control the action but Trainner is working from the bottom.
Trainner is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Baird's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Baird has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Baird pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Baird cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Trainner slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Baird not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Trainner moves into full guard.

Trainner pushes Baird off and scrambles back to his feet.
Trainner shoots for a takedown but Baird saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Baird.
Baird has a takedown stuffed.
Macadam Baird seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Trainner circles away from the clinch attempt

and Trainner counters by moving into the clinch.

Trainner is trying to break free.
Baird is trying to drag Trainner to the mat but Trainner just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Nick Trainner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Macadam Baird.
Baird wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Trainner has him pressed against the cage.
Trainner can't get the takedown.
Baird looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Baird drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Trainner tries to score a body lock takedown but Baird shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Baird has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Trainner is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Trainner has Baird pressed against the cage, preventing Baird from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Trainner drags the fight down to the ground.
Trainner is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Baird wants to get back to full guard.
Trainner is looking to take a break and control but Baird is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Trainner wants to pass to mount but Baird is defending the position.
Baird is looking for a sweep. Trainner is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Trainner is thwarting Baird's attempts to control the position.
Trainner seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Baird does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Baird shoots in for a double leg but Trainner sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Macadam Baird showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Trainner displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Baird.
Trainner shoots for a double leg takedown but Baird sprawls well. He's pushed Trainner's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Trainner looks to land a body kick but Baird moved away.
Trainner throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Baird will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Baird closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Trainner to the mat! Trainner manages to get full guard.
Baird cracks Trainner with a solid left hand.
Trainner wants to sweep here but Baird controlling him for the moment.

Trainner manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Baird tries to lock up and control but Trainner gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Baird is desperately trying to improve his position but Trainner has a good base and remains in mount.
Baird is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Trainner unloads with some shots from mount but Baird bucks and avoids them well.
Trainner can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Baird is looking to escape.

Trainner working for a guillotine from mount but Baird is in no mood to give up.
Baird is in all sorts of trouble here.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Baird is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Baird is working to get back to half guard.

Trainner working for a submission but Baird is keeping him at bay.
Baird tries to lock up and control but Trainner gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Trainner wants to control the pace but Baird is squirming around nicely.
Baird is looking to get to half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Baird can do anything to dispel that myth.
Baird manages to regain half guard. Good work.

Trainner is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Baird has managed to free his arm - good work.
Baird manages to get to full guard.
Trainner stopping the sweep attempt from Baird.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Baird pulls Trainner in close to his closed guard and prevents Trainner from doing any damage or advancing position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Trainner thows a big elbow that misses.

And that's the end of the fight!
Macadam Baird comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Baird winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
