Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Denis Chornya (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jan Mathisen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chornya comes to the cage accompanied by SummerSlam Time. Denis Chornya has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Denis Chornya!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jan Mathisen!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Valeri Chadov and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Chornya shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Mathisen manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Chornya wanted to stand there but Mathisen had control of the position.
Mathisen looking for a sweep. Not yet Mathisen, not yet.
Chornya loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Chornya trying to control the position from guard on top but Mathisen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mathisen is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Chornya bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Mathisen is trying to control Chornya's posture but Chornya avoids it.
Chornya wants to take a breather but Mathisen manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Chornya.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Chornya tries to clinch there but Mathisen circles away.

Chornya is trying to control. Mathisen wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Mathisen looks gassed!
Chornya thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Chornya has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Mathisen works to full guard.
Chornya tries to free his leg and advance position but Mathisen is retaining full guard.
Chornya trying to control but Mathisen is working from the bottom.
Chornya postures up.
Chornya seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Chornya wants to get up but he can't break Mathisen's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Chornya decides to stand back up. Chornya steps back and let's Mathisen get back to his feet.
Chornya doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Mathisen moves into the clinch.
Chornya keeps control of Mathisen as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Chornya breaks the clinch.
Chornya throws a jab but it's blocked by Mathisen.
Chornya circles away from the clinch attempt

and Chornya counters with a single leg into guard. Mathisen didn't expect that.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Chornya is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Mathisen is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Mathisen has escaped and now he's on top!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Chornya is trying to keep Mathisen in close.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Denis Chornya dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Chornya tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Mathisen counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Mathisen postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Mathisen won't allow Chornya to get back to his feet.
Mathisen controls from within his opponent's guard.
Chornya is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Chornya working a defensive guard but Mathisen manages to pass into side control anyway.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Chornya tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Mathisen wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Mathisen wants to control but Chornya is keeping him busy.

Mathisen is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Chornya is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Chornya is looking to reverse the position.
Chornya is pushing Mathisen's head away, looking to escape. Mathisen manages to hold on to the position though.
Mathisen controlling the position from side mount.
Chornya wants to control but Mathisen postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Denis Chornya overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Mathisen is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Chornya is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Mathisen tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Mathisen is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Chornya has escaped the position, nice work there.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Chornya can't do much from the bottom here.

Mathisen is trying to get an arm triangle but Chornya is defending well.
Chornya is trying to get back to half guard.
Chornya pushes Mathisen away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Mathisen gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Mathisen cracks Chornya with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Chornya gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Chornya is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Chornya wants to stand up but Mathisen is controlling him.
Chornya controls Mathisen momentarily but Mathisen frees himself.

Mathisen thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jan Mathisen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Chornya clinches with his opponent.

Chornya escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Mathisen closes the distance but Chornya moves to the side

so Chornya counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Chornya stopping the sweep attempt from Mathisen.

Chornya gets to his feet. Mathisen looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Chornya shoots for a takedown but Mathisen saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Danga de danga de dang - Mathisen scores with a four punch combination!
Mathisen fails with the takedown

and Chornya counters with a nice double leg into side control. Mathisen won't be happy with that.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Chornya decides to stand back up.

Mathisen wants to control from the top but Chornya keeps moving.
Chornya wants to sweep here but Mathisen controlling him for the moment.
Chornya is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Mathisen is controlling him.

Mathisen has gone for a leg lock! Chornya slips out almost immediately though and dives into Mathisen's guard.

Mathisen is pulling down on Chornya's head to control his posture.

Chornya tries to stand but Mathisen is controlling from the bottom.
Mathisen bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Chornya's guard.

Mathisen prevents Chornya from getting back to his feet.

Mathisen gets to his feet. Chornya looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Mathisen is adopting a defensive guard.
Mathisen keeping moving, preventing Chornya from controlling successfully.

Chornya got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mathisen has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Chornya has managed to get both his arms back between Mathisen's legs - danger averted.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
