Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Icaro Oliveira! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, MATT SERRA! The judges for this bout are John Roberts, David Schapiro and Dean Styles.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! SERRA closes the distance and clinches. Oliveira wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. SERRA gets control of Oliveira's arms and successfully pulls guard. SERRA will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. SERRA managing to control the position. SERRA manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
A nice elbow there by SERRA. SERRA controlling the position easily from mount. Oliveira is trying to stand. SERRA lands a big shot there that rocks Oliveira but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Oliveira knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for SERRA on the ground. SERRA looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Oliveira is staying active underneath SERRA, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Oliveira wants to get back to full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. SERRA wants to work for an arm triangle but Oliveira is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
SERRA looks gassed! Oliveira is trying to get back to full guard. SERRA decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up. Oliveira shoots and misses and SERRA counters into the clinch. Nicely done. This has been an exciting period of action! Oliveira scores with a nice hook to the head. Oliveira manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. SERRA won't allow Oliveira to sweep him here. SERRA controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Oliveira is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
That's three minutes gone in the round. SERRA stops Oliveira from standing up. Oliveira throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land. SERRA won't allow Oliveira to get back to his feet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. SERRA is standing up over Oliveira. Oliveira looks to escape but SERRA dives into side control.
Oliveira is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Oliveira is trying hard to land a takedown here. SERRA sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Oliveira takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Oliveira tries to clinch but SERRA moves out of range. A combination from Oliveira does no damage. Oliveira tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but SERRA was well out of range. Poor timing from Oliveira. SERRA throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Oliveira was covering up waiting for the punch and SERRA finishes the takedown easily into guard. SERRA prevents Oliveira from getting back to his feet. SERRA stands up and waves to Oliveira to follow him. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. SERRA on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. Oliveira with a lazy takedown attempt and SERRA counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Oliveira is lucky that one didn't land flush. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
MATT SERRA dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
A jab lands there for Oliveira. SERRA drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. SERRA's corner is telling him to maintain position. Oliveira will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Oliveira is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst SERRA is controlling him. MATT SERRA has got the better of the ground game so far. SERRA got a little sloppy there for a moment and Oliveira has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, SERRA has managed to get both his arms back between Oliveira's legs - danger averted. SERRA distracts Oliveira with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Oliveira is working an open guard so SERRA takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Oliveira with a body punch. A glancing blow. Oliveira misses with a takedown and SERRA counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
That's one minute gone in the round. Oliveira wants to stand up but SERRA is controlling him. SERRA won't allow Oliveira to sweep him here. Oliveira wants to get back to his feet but SERRA is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Oliveira is pulling down on SERRA's head. It's preventing any offense from SERRA, at least for the moment. Oliveira is trying to keep SERRA in close.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. SERRA showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Oliveira preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Oliveira wants to get back to his feet but SERRA is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Oliveira looking to hit a scissor sweep but SERRA is one step ahead there. SERRA showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Oliveira looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Oliveira keeping moving, preventing SERRA from controlling successfully. SERRA stands up and waves to Oliveira to follow him. Oliveira shoots in for a takedown but SERRA shows good takedown defense.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. SERRA closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Oliveira is looking to regain half guard here but SERRA keeps moving and retains side control. Oliveira is working hard here to advance position. SERRA in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Oliveira wants to get back to his feet but SERRA drags him back down. Oliveira is looking for a sweep. SERRA taking a breather here. SERRA lands some shots froms side control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
MATT SERRA showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

SERRA is controlling Oliveira's posture. Oliveira has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of SERRA is proving hard to escape from. SERRA is working an open guard so Oliveira takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. SERRA throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Oliveira moves in looking to clinch but SERRA pushes him off. Oliveira shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and SERRA counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Oliveira doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
SERRA stops Oliveira from standing up. SERRA trying to control but Oliveira is working from the bottom. Oliveira looking for a sweep. Not yet Oliveira, not yet. Oliveira preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Oliveira looking to hit a scissor sweep but SERRA is one step ahead there. Oliveira wants to stand and escape but SERRA is having none of it. SERRA postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. SERRA needs to keep his hands up - Oliveira had a free shot at his head there. Oliveira cracks SERRA with a good jab. Oliveira shoots in for a double leg but SERRA sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. SERRA scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Oliveira is trying to get back to half guard. SERRA advances nicely into full mount. SERRA looking to control and managing it successfully. Oliveira is trying to get back to his feet but can't. Oliveira tries to get back to half guard but can't.
That's three minutes gone in the round. SERRA controlling his opponent. SERRA wants to finish this one by submission but Oliveira is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from SERRA. SERRA takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Oliveira tries to reverse the position but SERRA maintains control. Oliveira is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. SERRA lands a big elbow. SERRA controlling from the full mount. SERRA is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Oliveira can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
SERRA can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Oliveira is looking to escape.
And that's the end of the fight! MATT SERRA comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I've got SERRA winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
