Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Umar Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ilary Valujew (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Umar Khan has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Umar Khan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ilary Valujew!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Igor Prikhodko and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Valujew keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Khan tries to bum rush Valujew with a series of wild strikes but Valujew uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Khan throws a right and a left that both miss.
Valujew closes this distance looking for a takedown but Khan circles away.
Khan fails in his attempt to clinch.
No joy there for Khan, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
A combination from Khan does no damage.
Khan misses with a wild combination.
Khan throws a nice looking combination but Valujew bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Khan misses with a few strikes there.

Valujew changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Khan looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Valujew in side control, throwing shots but Khan defends.
The referee asks Valujew politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Valujew prefers to stall for the moment though.

Khan is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Valujew lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Khan is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Valujew throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Khan because Valujew loaded up on that one.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Valujew takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Valujew fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Khan avoids it really well and circles away.
Umar Khan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Khan will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Valujew tries to advance position but instead Khan slips a leg back in to half guard.

Valujew is just content to waste time from the top position. Khan takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Khan wants to get back to his feet but Valujew is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Valujew has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Valujew loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ilary Valujew showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Valujew is keen to just control but Khan is a slippery customer.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
