PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Gustov Perculov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dean LeBough (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Gustov Perculov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dean LeBough!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Perculov tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but LeBough paws at him with a jab and circles away.

LeBough clinches.
LeBough has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Perculov avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Perculov avoiding damage.
Perculov fails to pull guard.
LeBough tries a knee to the head but he's missed.

Perculov breaks from the clinch.

LeBough shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
LeBough content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Perculov really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
LeBough wants to control but Perculov is keeping him busy.
LeBough slows the pace down in half guard.
Perculov has his hands clasped together around LeBough's back. He's all about the action.

LeBough missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Perculov tries to get to full guard but LeBough has control of the leg.
LeBough thows a huge punch but Perculov dodges it nicely.

LeBough is working for a kimura but Perculov is defending it quite comfortably.
Perculov has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. LeBough is working away from the top position though.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

LeBough closes the distance and clinches.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Perculov.
LeBough gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Perculov.

Perculov has LeBough pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Perculov pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending LeBough tumbling to the mat - Perculov dives into LeBough's guard.
LeBough trying to keep a closed guard but Perculov is proving a slippery customer.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Perculov's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Perculov wants to control from the top but LeBough keeps moving.
Perculov sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Perculov stands and throws LeBough's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Perculov is looking to take a break and control but LeBough is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
The referee asks Perculov politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Perculov prefers to stall for the moment though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
LeBough tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Perculov tries to advance to mount but can't.
Perculov taking a breather here.
Perculov trying to control the position but LeBough is working away.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Gustov Perculov will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Perculov shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Perculov prevents LeBough from getting the reversal.
Perculov controlling the position easily from mount.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Gustov Perculov just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Perculov has his takedown stuffed
and LeBough counters with a head kick. That will keep Perculov thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

LeBough drives through with a takedown into guard.
LeBough stays in close to Perculov's body and controls the position.
LeBough is looking to work some ground and pound but Perculov has wrist control.
Perculov preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
LeBough wants to control from the top but Perculov keeps moving.

LeBough is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
LeBough is breathing heavily.
Perculov looking to hit a scissor sweep but LeBough is one step ahead there.
LeBough trying to control the position from guard on top but Perculov is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
LeBough being controlled here momentarily.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Perculov tries for a takedown but LeBough circles away easily

and LeBough counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Perculov moves into full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
LeBough content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Perculov utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Perculov pulls LeBough in to control the position.
Perculov controls LeBough momentarily but LeBough frees himself.
LeBough won't allow Perculov to sweep him here.
LeBough makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
LeBough trying to control the position from guard on top but Perculov is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

LeBough prevents Perculov from getting back to his feet.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

LeBough shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
BOOM! LeBough connects with a massive shot to the dome!
LeBough scoring with strikes but Perculov is staying in there.
Perculov bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Perculov trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Perculov has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Perculov's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Perculov stands up and waves to LeBough to follow him.

LeBough closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - LeBough lands in his opponent's guard.
Perculov is looking to stand back up but LeBough counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Perculov.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dean LeBough showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!



LeBough feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
LeBough lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Perculov looking to hit a scissor sweep but LeBough is one step ahead there.
Perculov controls LeBough momentarily but LeBough frees himself.
LeBough postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

LeBough gets to his feet. Perculov looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Perculov doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Perculov takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Perculov tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but LeBough was well out of range. Poor timing from Perculov.

LeBough closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - LeBough lands in his opponent's guard.
LeBough trying to control but Perculov is working from the bottom.
Perculov looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Perculov is working an open guard so LeBough takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Perculov moves in looking to clinch but LeBough pushes him off.
Perculov tries for a takedown but LeBough circles away easily
and LeBough counters with a straight right hand.
Perculov misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gustov Perculov. That's going to take a lot out of him.

LeBough looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Perculov!

Perculov is working to get back to half guard.
Perculov wants to control but LeBough is having none of it.
LeBough can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Perculov is looking to escape.
Perculov is looking to improve his position but LeBough isn't that keen on the idea.
Perculov knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for LeBough on the ground.
Perculov tries to hold on but LeBough postures up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
BOOM! LeBough connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Perculov can't escape the position.
LeBough landing punches.
LeBough wants to control the pace but Perculov is squirming around nicely.
Perculov is wriggling around trying to escape.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

LeBough is working for a guillotine from mount but Perculov frees his head quite easily.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dean LeBough comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well LeBough has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
