PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mikhail Kopylov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Colt Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Williams comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Disturbed- Asylum kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Colt Williams will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mikhail Kopylov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Colt Williams!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Bruno Hogan and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Williams looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Kopylov walks into a stiff left hand from Williams.
Colt Williams seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Williams fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Kopylov has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Kopylov there as he acknowledges the shot.
Williams tries to clinch there but Kopylov circles away.

Williams gets a takedown into half guard.
Williams passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Kopylov!
Williams tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Williams pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Kopylov is in all sorts of trouble here.
Kopylov gets back to half guard.
Kopylov makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Kopylov.
Williams working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

Williams wants to pass the guard but Kopylov is keeping the position.
Kopylov might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Kopylov is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Kopylov working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Williams doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Williams manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Kopylov is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Williams is looking to escape.

Williams pushes Kopylov off and gets back to his feet.
No joy there for Williams, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Kopylov walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Williams checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Kopylov slips a jab and a cross from Williams.
Kopylov takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Kopylov avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Williams lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Some wild striking there from Williams.
Williams throws a nice outside leg kick.
Williams tries to land a front kick but Kopylov steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Williams tries to clinch but Kopylov is having none of it.
Kopylov stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kopylov wants it to stay on the feet.
Williams wants to clinch up but Kopylov keeps it at a distance.

Williams cracks Kopylov with an open hand slap.

Williams scores with a jab to the head.

Williams lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Kopylov circles away quickly and effectively.

Williams throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Kopylov.
Williams tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Kopylov lands with a thumping leg kick.

A left and a right from Williams both land. Nice combination.
Williams is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
A head kick misses from Kopylov.
Kopylov tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Kopylov avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Kopylov throws a nice inside leg kick.
Williams is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Williams chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Kopylov can pounce on him.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Williams doesn't manage to clinch there - Kopylov circles away.
Williams tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kopylov sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Williams somewhat.

Williams closes the distance and clinches.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Williams has clasped his hands together around Kopylov's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Kopylov is bucking up trying to escape but Williams cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Williams takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Williams lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Williams tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Williams has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Williams lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Kopylov down.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Williams tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Williams tries to bum rush Kopylov with a series of wild strikes but Kopylov uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

and Williams decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Kopylov's guard.

Colt Williams is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Williams sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Kopylov's guard.

Colt Williams comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Williams has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
