Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Luis Alvarez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, jesse james!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, John Mangel and Eliza Hachem.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
james throws a jab but it's blocked by Alvarez.
james shoots for a double leg takedown but Alvarez sprawls well. He's pushed james's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
james looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
james fails with an attempt to clinch.
james tries to clinch but Alvarez is having none of it.
Alvarez closes the distance and clinches.
james doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
james wants a takedown but no success here.
james misses with a short punch on the inside.
james has a couple of punches blocked by Alvarez.
Alvarez comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
james tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Luis Alvarez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of jesse james.
Alvarez landing some nice looking knees to the body.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
james fails to pull the fight into his guard.
The referee is keeping an eye on Alvarez - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Alvarez crunches a lovely knee into james's ribcage.
james looks gassed!
Alvarez connects with a knee to the head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
james working hard to break the clinch.
Alvarez lands a big knee to the head and james goes down! Alvarez is looking to finish!
james is rocked!
It looks like jesse james has been cut.
Alvarez stands up and we're back to a striking position.
james is still on wobbly legs! Can Alvarez finish him?
james tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
The fight moves into the clinch position.
Alvarez stalling against the cage.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Alvarez has james pressed up against the cage in a tight Thai clinch. james is arching his back, trying to avoid the knees but a big one sneaks through from Alvarez - that's hurt james badly! Oh, another knee lands and james is covering up! The referee steps in to save him - possibly a bit early but james doesn't seem to be complaining.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:15 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Knees). Luis Alvarez!
