Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Johns!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Douglas Bunker!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Hugh Johnson and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bunker closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Bunker goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Johns has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Bunker but great work by Johns.
Bunker is not content to let Johns control the position.
Bunker tries to buck Johns off but Johns is having none of it.
You can see the frustration on Bunker's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Johns looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Johns wants to stand but Bunker has his arm trapped.

Bunker wants to control but Johns postures up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Johns tries for a takedown but Bunker circles away easily

and Bunker counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Johns!
Johns can't escape the position.

Bunker has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Johns's face.
Johns is squirming around, avoiding Bunker's attempts to control the action.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bunker connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Bunker lands a heavy elbow.

Bunker tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Despite being in the dominant position, Douglas Bunker just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Bunker has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Johns regains guard immediately.
Bunker must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Bunker wants to control but Johns is keeping him busy.
Bunker really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Johns. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Bunker stands up.

Bunker shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Bunker showed some decent athleticism there.

Bunker seems to be working for a kimura but Johns defends the submission attempt.
Bunker is looking to stall here but Johns recovers full guard.

Bunker trying to control but Johns is working from the bottom.
Bunker stands and throws Johns's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Bunker is staying tight to Johns's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Douglas Bunker has got the better of the ground game so far.
Johns is not content to let Bunker control the position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Bunker stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Bunker scores a takedown into full mount!

Bunker with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Johns is squirming around, avoiding Bunker's attempts to control the action.

Douglas Bunker showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!



Bunker instigates a clinch.
Johns working aggressively here.
Bunker is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Johns gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Johns jumps guard but Bunker stands there with Johns around his waist. Johns gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Johns lands a left hand.
Bunker pushes Johns back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Bunker has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Johns is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Bunker has picked Johns up - he's going for a ride! Bunker dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Johns regains full guard. Nicely done.
Bunker slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Bunker wants to control from the top but Johns keeps moving.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Bunker wants to control from the top but Johns keeps moving.

Johns tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Bunker counters with a takedown into side control.

Bunker in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.

Bunker is trying to get an arm triangle but Johns is defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Johns prevents Bunker from moving into mount.
Bunker cracks Johns with a big right hand but Johns just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Bunker decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Bunker closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Johns did well to prevent Bunker getting side control.

Johns tries to kick Bunker off but Bunker keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Bunker seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Johns is looking to control Bunker's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Johns avoid being mounted?
John Johns has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Douglas Bunker is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Bunker is pressing down on Johns's thigh, looking to free his foot. Johns is holding on for now.

Well Bunker has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
