PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Flare (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ricardo Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that John Flare has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily John Flare seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, John Flare!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Ricardo Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Richard Clark and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Flare shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Gracie working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Flare doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Flare manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Gracie escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Flare gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Gracie had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Flare defends it easily.
Flare has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Gracie has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Flare can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Flare wants to control from the top but Gracie keeps moving.

Flare gets to his feet - Gracie follows without any prompting.

Flare throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Gracie was covering up waiting for the punch and Flare finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Gracie had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Flare defends it easily.

Gracie has his foot on Flare's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Flare works his way back into a safe position though.
Gracie looks gassed!

Gracie escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Flare gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Gracie is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Flare wanted to stand there but Gracie had control of the position.

Gracie looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Flare trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Gracie has momentary wrist control but Flare slips an elbow through the middle.

Gracie isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Flare stacks Gracie on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Flare!
Gracie is looking for a sweep.
Flare passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Gracie!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Flare fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Flare breaks from Gracie's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Flare with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Gracie tries to reverse the position but Flare maintains control.

Gracie tries to clinch up.

and Flare connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Flare rushes Gracie and presses him up against the cage.
Flare gets underhooks to prevent Gracie's takedown attempt.

Flare landing knees to the body.
Gracie is trying to drag Flare to the mat but Flare just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
John Flare has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ricardo Gracie.

Flare breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Gracie wants a takedown but no success here.
Flare could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Flare escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Flare.

and Flare counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Gracie is breathing heavily.
Flare trying to control the position from guard on top but Gracie is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Gracie is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Gracie is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Flare defends well.

Gracie is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Flare is aware though and is defending well.

John Flare overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Flare is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Gracie makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Gracie.

Flare avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Gracie escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Flare gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Flare passes Gracie's left leg - he's now in half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Flare is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Gracie is just riding it out for now. Flare eventually gives up the hold.

Gracie has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Flare is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Gracie.

Flare is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Gracie is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Gracie is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Flare off and has taken his back!

Gracie has both hooks in and is working for a choke. Flare is in real trouble here. Gracie gets an arm under the chin and tightens the submission attempt... is this the end? Yes, Flare is tapping out! Gracie wins by rear naked choke!
