PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Steve Lucas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Anton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Steve Lucas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Peter Anton!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, James Ackerman and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Anton shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Lucas napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Lucas looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Lucas seems a little lost for a moment, as Anton dominates the positioning.
Anton trying to control the action but Lucas is working from the bottom.
Lucas is being controlled here.

Anton stands up.
Anton shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Lucas as he avoids it easily.
Lucas doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Anton counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Lucas's guard now.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Anton decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Anton darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Anton thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Lucas's head.
Lucas is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Anton scores with a couple of nice shots.

Anton looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Anton is controlling the pace.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Let's hope that Anton has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Lucas knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Anton on the ground.
Anton trying to control from half guard but Lucas is working away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lucas has hold of Anton's hands but Anton slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Anton stands up and beckons Lucas to join him on the feet.
Anton tries for a takedown but Lucas circles away easily
and Anton takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Anton fails to land the takedown.
Steve Lucas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Peter Anton.

Anton gets the takedown into side control.
Anton cracks Lucas with a big elbow.
Anton prevents Lucas from escaping the position.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Lucas is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Lucas can't do much from the bottom here.
Anton is working Lucas over with some ground and pound from side control.
Lucas is looking to reverse the position.
Anton wants to control but Lucas is keeping him busy.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Anton shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Lucas napping and manages to drive through into side control!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Peter Anton dominated that round.
That's time! Lucas's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Anton fails with a takedown attempt.

Anton decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Anton escapes and gets back to his feet.
Anton looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Anton shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Lucas is squirming around, avoiding Anton's attempts to control the action.
Peter Anton has got the better of the ground game so far.
Lucas manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Anton lands with a punch from half guard.
Anton missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Anton stalling.
Lucas is looking to control Anton's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Lucas avoid being mounted?
Anton prevents Lucas from standing back up.
Lucas tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Anton manages to move to mount!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Anton punishing his opponent with strikes.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Anton controlling the pace for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Anton won't let Lucas get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Anton has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Anton lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Anton is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Lucas can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Anton sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Lucas is desperately trying to improve his position but Anton has a good base and remains in mount.
Anton scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Lucas keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Anton lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Anton landing strikes from the mount.
Lucas is working to get back to half guard.
Anton takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Anton looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Anton breaks from Lucas's wrist control and lands an elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Peter Anton showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Anton fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Anton bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Lucas is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
A lull in the action here as Anton stalls from top position.
Anton scoring with punches and elbows.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Anton works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Anton has hold of Lucas's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Lucas tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Anton cranks the arm and Lucas screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Lucas, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:03 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Peter Anton!
