0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Rashad Evans! The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Paul Aken and Paulsen Ambrosius.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Evans clinches with his opponent.
Gracie has Evans pressed up against the ropes and is working for takedown. Evans manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Gracie drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Still in the clinch, Evans scores with a nice short uppercut. Evans misses with a short punch on the inside. Gracie drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Renzo Gracie. That's going to take a lot out of him. Gracie is looking for a takedown up against the ropes. Evans gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Evans lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage. Evans lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.

I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Evans connects with a nice short shot to Gracie's temple. The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Evans shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Gracie wants to control but Evans is keeping busy and won't allow it. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Evans throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Gracie is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Evans scores with a couple of nice shots. Evans missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rashad Evans dominated that round. The cut man is working on Renzo Gracie's cut. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Evans shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Gracie napping and manages to drive through into side control! Evans throwing strikes but Gracie manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control! Evans is looking to reverse the position. You can see the frustration on Evans's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Evans is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Gracie tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Evans is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the ropes but Gracie has just dragged him back down to the mat. Evans really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gracie. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gracie tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Gracie has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Evans sneaks back into half guard. Evans is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Gracie pulls his head out easily. Gracie is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Evans doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Gracie. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Evans trying to control but Gracie postures up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Evans regains full guard. Nicely done. Evans had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Gracie defends it easily. Gracie drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gracie jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Evans tries to land a sweep but no joy. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gracie drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gracie jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Evans is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Gracie is controlling him. Evans working a defensive guard here.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Evans scores a takedown into full mount! Evans lands a big elbow.
