Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Flip Jones! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Archie James! The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Shigeki Sano and Tatsuya Matsuyama.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The fight stays on the outside here - James looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Jones avoids the head kick by James.
James throws a nice looking combination but Jones bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. James shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Jones but Jones pushes him off and we're back to square one. James tries to close the distance and clinch up but Jones swats him away and circles back towards the center. Jones keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. James shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Flip Jones has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Archie James. James shoots in but Jones avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. James tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jones sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten James somewhat. Jones slips a jab and a cross from James.
Jones displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from James. Jones darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Jones thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
That's two minutes gone in the round. James is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Jones scores with a couple of nice shots. Jones throwing shots but James is blocking nicely. Jones thows a huge punch but James dodges it nicely.
James keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Jones not landing any meaningful shots this time. Jones takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
It looks like Archie James has been cut. James looks gassed! Jones landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
That has opened up Archie James's cut even more.
The referee calls the doctor in to look at Archie James's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Flip Jones!
