Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Joey Gunner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ninja Steele (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Joey Gunner! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ninja Steele! The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Bruno Hogan and Winston Howard.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Steele slaps away a takedown attempt from Gunner, before circling back to the center of the mat. Nice sprawl there from Steele as Gunner shoots in. Steele with a lazy takedown attempt and Gunner decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Steele's guard. Gunner preventing the sweep. Steele kicks Gunner off and gets to his feet. Steele misses with a looping left. Gunner throws a sloppy head kick and Steele moves out of range easily. Gunner doesn't succeed with the takedown and Steele counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Gunner's guard now. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joey Gunner. That's going to take a lot out of him. Steele throws a big right hand that misses. Steele trying to control the position from guard on top but Gunner is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Steele throwing strikes but missing.

Gunner utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Gunner on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Gunner tries to get out of the position. Steele stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gunner swivels though and keeps the full guard. Steele is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Gunner utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Gunner closes the distance and lands a one-two. Steele throws a low kick, looking for Gunner's leg but Gunner calmly moves out of range. Steele throws a body kick but he wasn't in range. Steele circles away from the clinch attempt and Steele counters with an outside leg kick.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Gunner tries to land a front kick but Steele steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Gunner throws a head kick that misses. Steele tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target. Gunner misses with a takedown and Steele counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Steele is looking to take a break and control but Gunner is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Steele not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Gunner won't allow Steele to pass to mount. Steele looks gassed! Steele wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gunner keeps working. Steele works his way into full mount!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Steele trying to control but Gunner is having none of it. Steele punching from mount but Gunner doing a good job of avoiding damage. Steele has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Gunner is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Gunner tries to hold on but Steele pushes him away. Gunner is in all sorts of trouble here.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Gunner wants to get back to his feet.

Gunner is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Gunner knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Steele on the ground. Gunner wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Steele.
Steele sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it! Gunner takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ninja Steele dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Gunner shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Steele's guard. Gunner tries to free his leg and advance position but Steele is retaining full guard. Steele looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gunner is one step ahead there. Steele not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Steele wants to sweep but no luck. Gunner trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Gunner is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Steele is breathing heavily.
