PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Takanori Gomi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlos Rameiro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rameiro is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Go to Ring. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Takanori Gomi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Carlos Rameiro!
The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Nard Betker and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gomi swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Gomi misses with a wild combination.
The fight stays on the outside here - Rameiro looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Gomi looks to land a combination but Rameiro avoids it well.
Gomi throws a right hand that Rameiro ducks under and follows up with a left that Rameiro also avoids with ease.
Rameiro is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Gomi swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Rameiro moves into the clinch successfully.
Gomi fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Rameiro lands with a right to the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gomi tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Gomi has gone for a leg lock! Rameiro slips out almost immediately though and dives into Gomi's guard.
Rameiro postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Rameiro stands up over Gomi, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Rameiro loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Rameiro wants to control from the top but Gomi keeps moving.
Rameiro wants to stand but Gomi is controlling his posture from full guard.
Rameiro throws and elbow that misses. Gomi uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Rameiro's guard. Nice move by Gomi!
Rameiro is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Gomi drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Rameiro dives on top into guard.

Rameiro decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Gomi, up you get!

Rameiro closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the ropes.
Gomi tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Takanori Gomi. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Rameiro has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Gomi is trying to keep an underhook but Rameiro manages to get the takedown into half guard.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Gomi is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Rameiro pulls his head out easily.
Rameiro looks to land a strike but Gomi avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Rameiro wants to stand but Gomi has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Rameiro is looking to work some ground and pound but Gomi has wrist control.
Rameiro tries to stand but Gomi is controlling from the bottom.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Gomi looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Rameiro wants to get up but he can't break Gomi's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Carlos Rameiro dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Rameiro takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Gomi misses with a two punch combination.
Gomi misses with a double jab.
Gomi throws a nice looking combination but Rameiro bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Gomi throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Gomi lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Rameiro circles away quickly and effectively.

Rameiro scores with a takedown into Gomi's guard.
Rameiro with a flurry of punches that miss.
Rameiro must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Rameiro wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Gomi's closed guard. He's half up but Gomi has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Gomi pivots and extends the arm, Rameiro falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Gomi! Well done that man!
