PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Nikola Perovic (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Petteri Sakkeri (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nikola Perovic!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Petteri Sakkeri!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Eliza Hachem and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Perovic stuffs the takedown.
Sakkeri is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Perovic displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Sakkeri.
Sakkeri shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Perovic sprawls well. Perovic wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Sakkeri gets slowly back to his feet.
Nikola Perovic has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Petteri Sakkeri.
Sakkeri looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Perovic is fending him off so far but Sakkeri persists. Nope, Perovic circles away and we're back to standing.

Perovic darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Perovic is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Perovic lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Perovic drops an elbow to the side of Sakkeri's head.
Sakkeri won't allow Perovic to pass to mount.

Sakkeri wants to improve his position but Perovic is controlling well.
Perovic wants to control but Sakkeri is keeping him busy.

Perovic takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Perovic throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Perovic is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Sakkeri is just riding it out for now. Perovic eventually gives up the hold.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Still in half guard, Perovic seems content to control.
Sakkeri is trying to control but can't.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Perovic is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Perovic is taking a breather. Sakkeri says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Perovic not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Perovic thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Sakkeri's head.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Perovic throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Sakkeri moves in looking to clinch but Perovic pushes him off.
Sakkeri tries to clinch but Perovic is having none of it.
Sakkeri fails with an attempt to clinch.
A jab from Perovic does it's job there.
Sakkeri tries to close the distance and clinch up but Perovic swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Sakkeri tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Sakkeri lands with a kick to the ribs.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sakkeri wants to clinch.
Sakkeri misses with a takedown attempt

and Perovic counters with a takedown into side control.
Sakkeri is looking to regain half guard here but Perovic keeps moving and retains side control.
Sakkeri looks gassed!

Perovic wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Sakkeri, who protects the arm well.
Perovic works to advance to full mount. Sakkeri defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Sakkeri is in a horrible position here. Perovic smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Perovic lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Sakkeri hang on?
Sakkeri can't escape the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nikola Perovic dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Perovic is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Sakkeri's half guard.
Sakkeri wants to improve his position but Perovic is controlling well.
Sakkeri is breathing heavily.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Perovic connects with a nice short shot to Sakkeri's temple.
Perovic tries to stand but can't do so whilst Sakkeri controls his leg.
Sakkeri is not content to let Perovic control the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Perovic is nestled in close to Sakkeri, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Sakkeri looks like he's trying to stand up.
Perovic looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Sakkeri with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Perovic slows the pace down in half guard.

Perovic decides to stand up.
Some bone on bone action there as Perovic checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Sakkeri slips a straight right by Perovic.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Sakkeri fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Perovic, pushing him back against the cage.
Sakkeri with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Sakkeri is trying to break the clinch but Perovic has him pressed against the cage.

Perovic ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Perovic no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Perovic keeping moving, preventing Sakkeri from controlling successfully.

Perovic has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Sakkeri should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Perovic has tightened it up now! Sakkeri should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
