PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sammy Sandbag (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Fire (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fire has chosen Deaftones - Head Up as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sammy Sandbag!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jason Fire!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Dean Styles and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Fire moves into the clinch successfully.
Fire tries to pull guard but Sandbag won't allow it.
Sandbag can't get the takedown.
Fire is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Fire is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Sandbag wants a takedown but no success here.
Sandbag tries to pull guard but Fire holds him up against the cage and eventually Sandbag drops back down to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sammy Sandbag. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Fire ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Fire no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Fire controls Sandbag momentarily but Sandbag frees himself.
Fire is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Sandbag is controlling him.
Fire keeping full guard, as Sandbag tries to pass.
Fire utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Fire looking for a sweep. Not yet Fire, not yet.
Sandbag being controlled here momentarily.
Sandbag wants to pass the guard but Fire is keeping the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fire controls Sandbag momentarily but Sandbag frees himself.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Sandbag changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Fire tries to avoid it but Sandbag manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Fire to the ground. Fire escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Fire shoots in looking for a takedown. Sandbag tries to sprawl out of it but Fire keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sandbag manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Sandbag has a takedown stuffed.
Fire scores with a jab. Sandbag acknowledges it with a nod of the head.

Fire looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Fire sitting in guard here, content to control.
Fire passes into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fire not doing much here.

Sandbag looking for submissions off his back.
Sandbag is breathing heavily.
Sandbag is staying active underneath Fire, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Fire is looking for a kimura but Sandbag is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Fire to get the leverage.
Sandbag trying to control from the bottom.
Fire is looking to take a break and control but Sandbag is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Sandbag avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Fire.

Fire is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Sandbag decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Sandbag wants to take a breather but Fire is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fire makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Fire.

Sandbag is posturing up here but Fire has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Sandbag tries to roll out but it's too tight and Sandbag has to tap! Slick submission there by Fire!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:41 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Jason Fire!
