PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Phil Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bee Atch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Atch has chosen New York as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Phil Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Bee Atch!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, James Atkins and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Atch throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Atch tries to close the distance and clinch up but Jones swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Atch lands with a slapping head kick.


It looks like Phil Jones has been cut.
Atch tries to clinch but Jones is having none of it.
Jones avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Jones shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Jones showed some decent athleticism there.
Jones content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Atch is trying to stand back up but Jones is controlling him
Jones thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Atch's head.
Jones not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Jones has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Jones has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Atch is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Atch wants to control but Jones is keeping busy.

Jones throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Jones changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Atch looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Jones trying to control the action but Atch is working from the bottom.
Atch tries to contro but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.
Jones trying to control but Atch is having none of it.
Jones controlling from the full mount.
Atch is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Atch really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jones. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Atch is looking to improve his position but Jones isn't that keen on the idea.

Atch is just holding on here. Jones manages to take his back.

Jones is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.

Jones is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jones has the hooks in. Atch is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Atch has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jones slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
Atch is covering up but some of the strikes from Jones are getting through and doing damage.
Jones just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Atch tries to escape the position.
Atch is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Jones off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.

Jones closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Atch did well to prevent Jones getting side control.
Jones wants to take a breather but Atch is having none of it.
Jones moves into full mount! Atch won't be happy about that!
Atch is in all sorts of trouble here.
Atch is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Atch tries to hold on but Jones pushes him away.
The referee warns Atch that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Jones lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Atch is breathing heavily.
Jones takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Atch tries to reverse the position but Jones maintains control.

Jones manages to capitalize on a mistake by Atch to take his back!
Jones doesn't have the hooks in and Atch manages to turn into his guard.
Jones has Atch pulled in close to control his posture.
Jones controls Atch momentarily but Atch frees himself.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Phil Jones just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Jones keeps the fight on the outside.

Atch throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Atch takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Atch tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Atch tries to clinch but Jones is having none of it.
Jones tries to clinch up but Atch circles away and keeps his distance.
Jones misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Atch avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Atch gets caught flat footed, as Jones shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Atch not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Jones might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Atch is working an open guard so Jones takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Bee Atch seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Atch throws a sloppy head kick and Jones moves out of range easily.
Atch dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Jones. That did some damage!
Atch avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Atch plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Jones misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Atch thuds his shin into the meat of Jones's side.
Jones takes a head kick and keeps coming.

Jones takes a knee right on the jaw!

Atch tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.

Atch is looking for a sweep. Jones is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Jones is taking a breather. Atch says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Atch looks like he's trying to stand up.

Jones is controlling the pace.
Jones throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Atch is looking to control Jones's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Atch avoid being mounted?
Atch tries to get to full guard but Jones has control of the leg.
Jones keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Atch works his way to full guard. Good work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Atch pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Atch forces Jones back against the cage and clinches.
Atch stalling in the clinch.
Jones tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Atch smiles and moves away.
Atch throws a head kick but Jones moves out of range.

Jones tries to clinch up.

Jones darts in and clinches Atch up against the cage.
Jones wants a takedown but no success here.
Atch tries to land knees in the clinch but Jones avoids the damage to the body.
Jones working hard to break the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jones jumps guard but Atch stands there with Jones around his waist. Jones gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Phil Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Jones is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Atch pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Jones is looking to control Atch's arms but Atch gets an underhook and turns him. Now Jones has his back to the cage.
Jones tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Jones tries to stall but Atch uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Atch working Jones over with knees to the body.

Jones drags the fight down to the ground.
Jones bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Atch's guard.
Atch is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Jones prevents Atch from getting back to his feet.
Phil Jones overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Atch is on top in guard.

Atch wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Jones's closed guard. He's half up but Jones has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Jones pivots and extends the arm, Atch falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Jones! Well done that man!
