PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jeffrey Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Yardy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jeffrey Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yardy fails with a takedown attempt.
Jones throws a series of punches but Yardy moves out of range.

It looks like Jeffrey Jones has been cut.

and Yardy connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Yardy stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jones swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Jones escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Yardy gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Jones will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Jones has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Jones has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Yardy is working away from the top position though.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Yardy unloads a knee to the mid-section. Jones lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Yardy lands a good knee to the midsection. Jones won't want to take too many of those.

Yardy has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Jones clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Yardy connects with a big shot to the side of Jones's head.

You can see the frustration on Jones's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Yardy got a little sloppy there for a moment and Jones has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Yardy has managed to get both his arms back between Jones's legs - danger averted.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Jones throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Let's hope that Yardy has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dan Yardy comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Yardy has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
