PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gonzalo Perez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Doc Jenks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gonzalo Perez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Doc Jenks!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, John Roberts and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Perez scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Jenks is not content to let Perez control the position.
Jenks can't do much from the bottom here.
Jenks tries to improve position but can't.
Jenks takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Jenks is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Perez stands up and beckons Jenks to his feet.
Jenks tries for a takedown but Perez circles away easily

and Perez counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Jenks!

Perez goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Jenks turns into him and now he's in Perez's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Perez is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Jenks is controlling him.
Perez is breathing heavily.
Jenks stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Perez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Perez is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Jenks slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Jenks gets to his feet - Perez follows without any prompting.

Perez shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Perez was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Perez trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Jenks is trying to reverse the position but instead Perez has taken his back - oops!
Jenks rolls, trying to escape but Perez keeps control of the position.
Jenks is keeping busy.

Perez patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jenks covering up well under a barage of strikes.

Perez is persistently looking for the submission but Jenks is defending it well.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Jenks is having to fend off submission attempts from Perez, who is looking to sink in the choke. Perez doesn't have the hooks in though and Jenks manages to reverse position! He's now on top, in his opponent's guard.
Jenks in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gonzalo Perez dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Nice takedown defense from Perez. No joy for Jenks on that attempt.
Perez fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Horrible takedown by Jenks or perhaps it was just good defense by Perez which made him look bad.

so Perez counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Gonzalo Perez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Doc Jenks.

Perez wants to control from the top but Jenks keeps moving.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Perez gets to his feet. Jenks looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Perez takes the fight into the clinch.
Perez changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Jenks fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Jenks keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Jenks wants to clinch but Perez slips to the side

and Perez counters with a shoot takedown. Jenks fights it but they end up in guard.

Jenks is trying to hold Perez in close to prevent damage but Perez has managed to pass into half guard.

Perez is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Jenks doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Perez.
Perez seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Jenks does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Jenks is trying to control but Perez passes into side control!
Jenks is not content to let Perez control the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Perez shoots in and bounces Jenks off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Perez postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Perez wants to control from the top but Jenks keeps moving.

Perez is looking to work some ground and pound but Jenks has wrist control.

Jenks preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Jenks is working an open guard so Perez takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Perez closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Jenks to the mat! Jenks manages to get full guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Perez breaks from the clinch.

Perez scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Jenks is staying active underneath Perez, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Perez stalling away here and it's allowed Jenks to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Jenks wants to get back to his feet but Perez is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Perez wants to pass the guard but Jenks is keeping the position.

Perez decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Jenks takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Perez fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

and Perez counters with a single leg into guard. Jenks didn't expect that.
Jenks controls Perez momentarily but Perez frees himself.
Perez would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Jenks is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Jenks pulls Perez in close to prevent any damage.
Jenks wants to sweep here but Perez controlling him for the moment.
Jenks keeping moving, preventing Perez from controlling successfully.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Jenks dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Perez. That did some damage!
Jenks tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Perez holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Perez manages to break the clinch.

Perez gets the takedown into side control.
A lull in the action here as Perez stalls from top position.
Perez throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
Doc Jenks has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Perez in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Perez wants to control but Jenks is keeping him busy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Perez works to advance to full mount. Jenks defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Jenks tries to hold on but Perez pushes him away.
Jenks is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Perez content just to control the position here.
Perez pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Perez wants to control the pace but Jenks is squirming around nicely.

And that's the end of the fight!
Gonzalo Perez showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Perez, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
